i come hre to find jobs. it is by far the easiest website to find writing jobs wothout having to sign up for some book, however, today is Aug 14, 07 the last job posted were for Aug 3, 07 ….where are the new jobs Deb???

Allycat – Just so you know, there’s a good chance none of the five in prep right now will get the gig! In which case About will bring in five more. I have to say, this is the first time I know of several people going through prep on the same subject. Good luck to you Allycat.

I hate to say it, but I’m glad the editor moved on. I had issues early with the way generalizations were being presented as facts. In fact, I wrote to About and to the editor. Both responded and yes, the editor was gracious, but I don’t think she understood my point, which was that generalizations can be dangerous.

I agree Karen. It is definitely one of the better places to work. I have been trying for an embarrassingly long time to get hired there. I am talking 8 years or so. I have applied for spiders, coffee, pagan/wiccan, on and on and on…I know I should get the hint but I *really* want to get there. LOL..Don’t tell ME no!

I am a current writer at About. I have been there since 2005 and I love it. They are easy to work for- just follow directions- and it is a lucrative experience. The more traffic you get the more you make. It is one of the few jobs you can take that allows you to earn money based on effort. Getting the job is a workout. You have to put in the time to prove yourself during the initial hiring period but after that the workload and the pay is very reasonable.

It looks as if her hands gave out or were injured? I think the job is a LOT of work-may be more so because it is a freelance writing site.
It also seems that the high profile freelance positions attract a lot more snarkiness and it may be that played a part.
That is my wild speculation and yet I still apply for any topics that I am qualified for at About.

Thanks to all about the job at About.com. I should have read through this first. I kind of worry about this particular job, because Loolwa, the last guide, was only there for what seemed a short time, and they had another woman before that, and she didn’t seem to be there very long, either. Not trying to downplay the job, but just curious. I actually e-mailed the last guide to see what was up, so we’ll see if she will respond to my question.

Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with About.com? I’ve heard that if they select you as a finalist, you have to spend weeks writing content and learning their system without pay, and then you could still come out of the training period to find you weren’t selected. I was just wondering if it was worth pursuing.
