I had the same experience and, yes, it does seem a little too convenient that his rules of application keep the applicants from making too much noise.

I would think that unless some credible evidence is brought forward to prove that this is a legitimate employer it seems to be he should be placed on some kind of Scam List on this blog. Like the heads of executed criminals placed on spikes along London Bridge, to serve as a warning for all newcomers on what to avoid.

I applied to the Expert Proofreader gig (csean2@gmail.com) and got a response with a proofreading test attached. I completed the test (which wasn’t that hard — or so I thought) and never received a reply from him. His listing specifically states that you are not to send follow-up e-mails because they don’t have time to respond to all of them. So I guess I’ll chalk it up to a phishing e-mail to save my shattered ego….

That is so funny! It’s good to know that I’m not the only (sick) one, ha ha ha. Yes, indeed, I too shall admit — right here, right now — that I also cruise the ads for relaxation after the days deadlines are done.

I did some research and Sean also posts Proofreader ads under ssc1987@aol.com (Philadelphia, Phoenix, SF Bay, St. Louis) and under jackets83@gmail.com (Honolulu). I’m not sure if this ad phishes for e-mail addresses so be careful.

I applied to the Expert Proofreader posting before and never received a reply. I even read the listing several times to make sure that I was complying with all demands so my response would not be relegated to the slag heap. No luck. I crossed my fingers and applied again today because it looks like a good assignment.

I remember applying a long time ago but the process seemed odd. If he has hundreds of responses each time he posts the ad, is it possible not to have plenty of people to choose from when you need a proofreader? Just wondering.
