Freelance Writing Jobs underwent some major changes over the past couple of months, including a redesign and format change. You probably noticed more “round table” type discussions. Thank you for the positive response.
My goal for this blog has always been to cultivate a wonderful, thriving community for writers. I’m happy to see so many of you come out and participate these last few weeks.
So, now it’s your turn. How do you like Freelance Writing Jobs? Is there something you’d like to see more of or something you’d like less? What kinds of discussions interest you the most? Are you happy with the job postings or are we looking in the wrong places?
Do be gentle.
P.S. AJay, our new resident techie, will be tinkering around here and there over the next few days so you may see some more changes coming up.

Deb,
I love Freelance Writing Jobs and often link back to you from my site. I have enjoyed the weekend roundtables and feel like the site is more than just a job board now – it’s a fledgling community. Thanks for all the work you do to support us freelancers!
A great way to network and find work. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it–that’s how I feel.
Thanks, Deb!
Freelance Writing Jobs is one of my favorite writing spots online. I still search for gigs elsewhere but I have found many luscrative gis through FWJ.
The only thing I would love to see is more gigs for fiction and short (fiction) stories!
I agree with the others – this is one of my favorite sites. As a newbie writer, I always have tons of questions and many of them have been answered here. The postings are great, too – a lot of variety.
I’m sure you were looking for some great constructive criticism, but I have to agree with others–I think you’re doing fabulously and I also love that there’s more discussion going on (I’m following even when I don’t comment)
I haven’t been looking for work lately as I have more than enough as it is, but when I was your blog was always the first place I went!!!
I have to say, I also love the recent changes. Thanks to the discussions, I have started checking back daily even though I don’t need to look for work right now. Thanks so much for your wonderful blog, Deb!
I love your site. I have gotten a few gigs from your job roll. Thanks a lot
I just want to thank you for all the work you put into this for the rest of us. It does not go unnoticed.

I like how you’ve started doing more discussions. It really makes me feel not so alone, as weird as that sounds. I’m sure you all can relate–when you’re sitting at home all day writing, sometimes you just need a bit of human contact. I try not to join forums and such because they distract me, but I don’t feel so guilty coming here because the comments are actually useful to my job.
Thanks for a great site! My one comment would be to maybe consider putting the search bar at the top instead of the bottom so people can find it more easily. For a long time, I didn’t think you had one.
I love the recent discussions. Now I check back even when I am not looking for projects and I’m getting a lot of ideas for working with clients, marketing myself, etc.
I love this blog, and I especially love all the new discussions. You are doing a great job!
I’ve bookmarked your site and go to it first thing every morning. I think you are doing a great job trying to help out freelance writers. I really appreciate your effort! Thanks!!
Excellent job. Not my first stop, but certainly a daily look. Have yet to find work via the listings, though came very close on one thing. Once I do, I will definitely “buy you a coffee,” as you have mentioned today. I think good referrals should result in compensation.
By the way, could you run a discussion on the need/ROI for a Web site. Obviously, you’re doing a lot with yours. But I’m wondering how necessary it is for those of us with little graphics capability (to paraphrase Joe Friday “just the text…”).
Do others with simple sites find them worth the fees, or is it just another sunk monthly expense (doctors and mechanics want my income first).
Thanks
There is only one thing I’ve noticed that I would count as a negative. I’m on a cable internet connection, but for whatever reason, when I load your site, the side with the ads comes up instantly, but the other side with the job postings and discussions takes around 5 to 10 seconds now. While it’s not a big deal, some days I’m busy enough that I give up waiting for the page to reload after I’ve followed a link and then gone back.
I think the addition of the roundtables is a great idea. I read somewhere that ending a post with a question is a great way to get more responses. That you’ve taken it one step further with the roundtables is terrific.
Deb, I think this site is great. It’s a wonderful time saver for busy writers; as you well know, it can take hours to troll the Web for job ops. It does take a few seconds for the site to load (I have broadband), but it’s a small problem. I like your recent postings/Q&A’s very much.
A friend directed me your way, and I am so grateful. Although writing for me has spanned my lifetime, I just began this year to take the plunge and submit my work. Your site has provided many leads. I check your site once a day for job opps, and probably always will.
Thank You
Love it all. I have one request – can you list the day of the week next to the date?
I generally read the blog for discussions-your topics are always interesting and useful to both beginner and experienced writers. I also find the tips and comments from other readers to be helpful as well. So…thanks and keep up the fabulous work!
I’m happy to have found your blog. The discussions are great. It’s nice to read other writers’ opinions on the various issues you’ve brought up. I’ve been checking back almost daily to see what you’ll do next.
Although it’s not a suggestion for my own benefit, one thing you might want to know is that your second Google ad group/box always displays a “connection has been reset” error on my end. I don’t know if everyone sees that, or if it’s just me.
First, thanks so much for writing the blog and posting job listings — for free. You do a great service, and I’m a grateful reader. I’m a freelance copy editor and proofreader, not a writer, so my one (selfish) request would be for more jobs (and from sources other than Craig’s List) for copy editors and proofreaders. I do my own searches for copy-editing and proofreading jobs and see lots of jobs that aren’t listed here (as well as writing jobs), so I know they’re out there. But I get that this is a site for writers and that you’ve got limited time.
Hey everyone,
I am the webmaster and am working on this blog I have just implemented a few tweaks that should drastically decrease the time it takes for the page to load. I realize the google ads display first and this kind of slows down the page load. Am working on a tweak for that. The problems you mentioned above should soon be history.
AJay, it seems to be loading just fine now for me…I was also having the aforementioned problem.
Deb, thank you for all the work that you do and for all your tips and suggestions. I really appreciate having your blog to refer to.
Dear Debb,
I have learned alot from your site and your wisdom. I have appled for many of the jobs that you post I havent had luck yet but I dont give up
thank you for taking the time to have a place like this.

Hi Deb and Jodee, Well, I think this is the right spot to comment on something I’ve been meaning to say for days, and that is that I LOVE the “bu me a coffee” link. It is PERFECT- well worded, not obtrusive and really, I am likely to click on it.
Hi Deb and all,
I like the buy me coffee link also. It fits with the feeling of this group. We are all just sitting, drinking some coffee or tea, and talking about what matters to us…writing and making a living at it. I check the list each day and I’m bummed on the weekends when I know a list won’t be coming. Thank you so much for your knowledge and time.
I’ve been coming here for quite some time. Scratch that, I’ve been getting the RSS faithfully for quite some time. Your attitude and information really helps me. Although your blog design is nice, it’s not as helpful as the information it holds.
