I’ve been coming here for quite some time. Scratch that, I’ve been getting the RSS faithfully for quite some time. Your attitude and information really helps me. Although your blog design is nice, it’s not as helpful as the information it holds.

Hi Deb and all,
I like the buy me coffee link also. It fits with the feeling of this group. We are all just sitting, drinking some coffee or tea, and talking about what matters to us…writing and making a living at it. I check the list each day and I’m bummed on the weekends when I know a list won’t be coming. Thank you so much for your knowledge and time.

Hey everyone,
I am the webmaster and am working on this blog I have just implemented a few tweaks that should drastically decrease the time it takes for the page to load. I realize the google ads display first and this kind of slows down the page load. Am working on a tweak for that. The problems you mentioned above should soon be history.

First, thanks so much for writing the blog and posting job listings — for free. You do a great service, and I’m a grateful reader. I’m a freelance copy editor and proofreader, not a writer, so my one (selfish) request would be for more jobs (and from sources other than Craig’s List) for copy editors and proofreaders. I do my own searches for copy-editing and proofreading jobs and see lots of jobs that aren’t listed here (as well as writing jobs), so I know they’re out there. But I get that this is a site for writers and that you’ve got limited time.

I’m happy to have found your blog. The discussions are great. It’s nice to read other writers’ opinions on the various issues you’ve brought up. I’ve been checking back almost daily to see what you’ll do next.

Although it’s not a suggestion for my own benefit, one thing you might want to know is that your second Google ad group/box always displays a “connection has been reset” error on my end. I don’t know if everyone sees that, or if it’s just me.

Deb, I think this site is great. It’s a wonderful time saver for busy writers; as you well know, it can take hours to troll the Web for job ops. It does take a few seconds for the site to load (I have broadband), but it’s a small problem. I like your recent postings/Q&A’s very much.

I think the addition of the roundtables is a great idea. I read somewhere that ending a post with a question is a great way to get more responses. That you’ve taken it one step further with the roundtables is terrific.

There is only one thing I’ve noticed that I would count as a negative. I’m on a cable internet connection, but for whatever reason, when I load your site, the side with the ads comes up instantly, but the other side with the job postings and discussions takes around 5 to 10 seconds now. While it’s not a big deal, some days I’m busy enough that I give up waiting for the page to reload after I’ve followed a link and then gone back.

Excellent job. Not my first stop, but certainly a daily look. Have yet to find work via the listings, though came very close on one thing. Once I do, I will definitely “buy you a coffee,” as you have mentioned today. I think good referrals should result in compensation.

By the way, could you run a discussion on the need/ROI for a Web site. Obviously, you’re doing a lot with yours. But I’m wondering how necessary it is for those of us with little graphics capability (to paraphrase Joe Friday “just the text…”).

Do others with simple sites find them worth the fees, or is it just another sunk monthly expense (doctors and mechanics want my income first).

I like how you’ve started doing more discussions. It really makes me feel not so alone, as weird as that sounds. I’m sure you all can relate–when you’re sitting at home all day writing, sometimes you just need a bit of human contact. I try not to join forums and such because they distract me, but I don’t feel so guilty coming here because the comments are actually useful to my job.

Thanks for a great site! My one comment would be to maybe consider putting the search bar at the top instead of the bottom so people can find it more easily. For a long time, I didn’t think you had one.

Freelance Writing Jobs is one of my favorite writing spots online. I still search for gigs elsewhere but I have found many luscrative gis through FWJ.

The only thing I would love to see is more gigs for fiction and short (fiction) stories!
