I have to tell you, what you do here is fantastic service. I’ve been poking around looking for freelance work but not getting much in the way of replies. I recently reworked my approach and resume, and started applying to jobs you’ve posted here. In the last 4 days I’ve gotten 5 solid responses for work and one gig that is already paying. Thank you so much for your time and effort here, it really does make a difference!

Jodee thanks for the research you do to get these writing leads to us! It is much appreciated! I am still working up enough confidence and material to actually apply or submit anything to the leads. Re: the site promoter gig (and others like it that ask you to write something on spec without providing a name/URL/or other identifiying info).

When I see a gig that looks promising, but could also be a scam (i.e. they want the samples only and you’ll never hear from them again), I email them with some links to my work and a little background about myself, and a request for more information about their project so I can appropriately tailor my response.

That way, if they don’t respond, I’ve only lost a few minutes of my time, and if they do, I can usually get a sense of the company and find out enough about them to see if they’re legit. It’s also happened that they get enough of a sense of what I’m capable of that I end up not even needing to do the spec work.

On the call for submissions e-zine article lead for Wow! Women on Writing, I wasn’t able to find their writing guidelines. They say they are oline, but I didn’t see them. Anyone else? Where did you find them?

I am so excited to see so many gigs over the last few days. Thank you so much Deb and Jodee. I have a few issues that I am hoping to get some feedback about:

I response to many gigs but never hear back from them – any advice on how to dazzle them?

I am a health/fitness writer and am not finding many opportunities in my genre – any advice on places to look?

I’d like to say thank you for posting several leads where magazines are looking for articles. I’m just getting started, need to build up a few credentials and clips, and the magazine leads are extremely helpful.
