Congratulations on the new gig, rachel! I wish I could help but the number of times I’ve worked as a problogger, I was only in charge of the posts and not the traffic. I also charge depending on the nature of the blog. For example, for my blog which requires a quite the novel from me every day, I charge per word. For another blog which requires me to post small blurbs several times a day, I charge per post. I think that for problogger jobs which require you to drive traffic into the domain, you would be looking for a fixed monthly stipend to compensate for your time.
as for the the contract, I think it might be best if Deb answers that because I’m not very well-versed when it comes to legal matters. Still, having a contract is great, you just have to make sure to do your end.

Congrats on the new gig, Deb! And happy Labor Day. I’ve been a long-time reader/lurker, but I’ve just landed my first blogging gig and I have a few questions:

Contract – yes or no?
What’s the best payment structure (per post, per hour, per word, etc.)?
Should I also be compensated for driving traffic to the blog (if so, how)?

This is both my first time as a paid blogger and the blog owner’s first time hiring someone to blog. Thanks in advance for any advice!

As someone who worked in sales for many years, I always remind people never to accept what might seem like “rejection” at face value. There’s usually something else just around the corner, but you can’t stop moving or you’ll never discover it.

Just keep doing your best and plugging away–if you do, good things are bound to come your way.

You’re a wonderful example of someone who is tenacious and professional; it’s why you’ve built a veritable blogo-empire!

Congratulations on the new job. It’ll give you something to do during all that “down” time (ha ha ha).

I just want everyone to know not to give up. I think a lot of people just quit too early if they don’t get the results they want right away. Keep plugging away! That is how you learn, grow, and gain confidence! If writing is something you really love, keep doing it!
