Rochelle Nicole is a good employer. I haven’t received payment as of yet but it isn’t due yet. They are very professional and the editing is wonderful since they only highlight changes they want and then have you change it. They hand out assignments at the beginning of the month, have a firm deadline for assignments and give you about 7-10 days to get revisions back to them.
I really enjoy working for them and their word count for price is not horrendous. Basically a 251 to 550 word count is $50 and so on. They have it all outlined in a package they send you.
Just thought I would let everyone know especially if they are interested in writing for them.
Hi there,
What is the Unite banner on the top of this blog? It looks intriguing, but when I click on it, it is just a jpeg.
I’m curious.
Thanks,
Eun Jung
I was wondering that too, Eun Jung. It looks interesting.
sirenavs,
Thanks for posting the info about Rochelle Nicole, as I was interested in writing for them. Any idea if they are receptive to newbies?
thanks a bunch!
Lisa
Lisa,
No problem. Yes they are receptive to newbies. I have only been writing freelance for 9 months now and none of it was in the fashion industry. They accepted my resume and had me work on an article for October to see if I fit the magazine. Thankfully, they liked what they saw and I am working on a second article for them.
I have to ad that this is one of a few jobs that I obtained because of Freelance Writing Jobs, so a big thanks for that.

Blog Action Day–which is today, Oct 15th–is a day when all bloggers are asked to use their blogging to promote environmental awareness/change. You can learn about is here: http://blogactionday.org/. Basically, they want you to post relative to your topic something that can further environmental awareness or conservation.
Hope that helps!
I applied to Rochelle Nicole and was responded to with a “Welcome to the team” email. I was told to write back with which articles I’d like to write, which I did, and they never emailed back. I followed up several times.
Either they switched email accounts or decided they weren’t interested…but forgot to clue me in. I wish them luck.
Stacy – The same thing happened to me with Rochelle Nicole. Disappointing because I had a lot of ideas and was looking forward to contributing.
Beware of the Hospitality Ad. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I clicked and got this long letter talking about wealth building and at the bottom was this string:
$49.95 – 30 day Risk Free Trial!
Does Blog action day apply to posts of news stories where science professors take Al Gore to task for what they consider to be his pseudo-science-based documentary?
sirenavs, I just got into Rochelle Nicole. I wouldn’t even have submitted a query had it not been for your tip since I also am a newbie and have no prior experience writing for women’s magazines. Thanks a lot, I owe you (and Deb and Jodee, as always).
Sirena,
Thank you so much for your info re: Rochelle Nicole. They are giving me an opportunity to write an article as well. I’m sending lots of good karma your way
-Lisa
No problem, Lisa and Mariella but that good karma is greatly needed right now as I wait to hear back about a grant program. If your good thoughts send that through I will be very, very grateful.
Good luck with Rochelle Nicole and I’m sorry that a few writers didn’t hear back from them.

I would advise taking this job down:
Freelance Writers Needed @ Atlantic Publishing Company
They want someone to write a 65K book w/case studies, full round of edits, etc. for about a penny a word. Oh and you don’t have rights to your work.
UGHHHH!
Yes, and that isn’t even counting the 10 interviews that they want in addition to the 65,000 words
Considering I get 50 cents to $1 a word for case studies, what Atlantic is offering doesn’t even qualify as a joke. They’ll get what they pay for.
I was going to chime in on Atlantic Publishing Services, also. The pay is lame, the schedule tight, and the terms and conditions insulting.
The response was good for a laugh because it was so ridiculous, but that is it.

I agree. My husband and I both had a chuckle.
Ok, I think I just received the strangest compensation package ever! It was for a blogging position that was listed in the jobs section of FWJ. I can’t figure out exactly who the position was with since it was a craigslist posting and a different reply email but I am sure that the posting did not explain what the blogging was for.
What was the compensation? Not monetary by any means but the chance to meet adult entertainment stars and merchandise from their various stores, to name a few of the perks. I don’t think I will be replying back for further details.
Sirena
Can anyone tell me about their experience blogging for b5media?
I have an offer, but the pay is $50/month with $1.65 incentive for every 1K pageviews. That doesn’t sound like much for 6 (possibly more) posts/week.
If anyone has any insight, I’d appreciate it.
I think b5media generally starts low and builds up the pay as your blog gains popularity.
Sirena, I’m wishing good karma to blow your way too.
Good luck with the grant!
Kathleen:
I responded to their e-mail by asking if that at those rates didn’t they have deadline and quality problems with their contributors.
Mark L.
Did she respond back? I was going to reply with something sarcastic (my specialty) but I elected to hit the delete button instead.
Probably a good thing. I’d hate to ruin my reputation by being, um, not so nice.
Sirena – that is quite the compensation package!
I know. My DH couldn’t understand why I wanted to pass on the position. LOL
