I’d personally question the business acumen of anyone wanting only snail-mail clips.

I’d actually offer the electronic clips first (helps establish your knowledge of trend to electronic publishing), then, send a Web print out rather than a word document.

I think my online clips are good, but many of the places I want to query want it via snail mail. So, would my saved copies in Word be ok, just printed out? Or print the web page?

Guess I just need to start with places that take electronic queries/clips and work my way up.

Include links, if available. If not, scan into a PDF and send that. Check before sending attachments, though. Some don’t want them.

Failing that, you could offer to follow up with fax or snail mail clips.

Much of my work is online, but some is only available if I scan a physical clip. So I include links and offer to follow up with PDFs. wording is to the tune of “attachments to clips are below. I have PDFs of other clips if you prefer.”

If you don’t have a scanner, go to Office Max or a competitor that will put it on disk/other storage medium for a couple of bucks. I pay my kids to scan in items for me for this type of use.

Many local parenting magazines don’t require clips. Of course, they don’t pay as well either. But it may be a good place to start.
