Love the word tool! Unfortunately, I don't love the amount of tools there are on the web. As with almost anything in life, if you don't like it, steer clear. I liked the coverage -- it was something different.

Regarding craigslist: I worked for a cheap company and used the boards to get new writers. I never listed the name because I didn't want a ton of psychos calling me at work asking me how much I paid and why I wasn't hiring them. However, I didn't get many worthy writers from my posts. I guess sometimes you get what you pay for!

Re: Craigslist and websites

I once went to submit a book reviewers wanted ad via Craigslist and after listing my website name, a friend of mine who knows their pricing policy said because it was a commercial ad it would cost money, but if I took my website out and just had people email me for more information, that counted as a free ad. So I followed his suggestion and sure enough the ad went in for free. So for some, I'm sure it's just a matter of not wanting to spend that much cash on an ad that might generate enough interest to make the ad fee worthwhile.

Deb, I'm glad you can answer the negativity you receive with grace & aplomb. I, for one, thought your posts from this past week were very interesting. It definitely shows the world that blogging isn't going anywhere soon & can become a viable writing career for the right people. Thanks for everything you do.

Susan J.,

I agree! I also feel weird about not seeing a business name, because who exactly decided how "large" these businesses are? And who gets to weed out the "talent" from the not-so-talented? They may be perfectly legitimate, but it just doesn't SEEM professional. Plus, I won't want to take a job that I don't feel qualified for.

That is one of my pet peeves about Craig's List. Not just the issue of whether you've worked with them before, but if you had at least a company name to research, it would go a long way towards tailoring your query letter. When you read something vague like "large company seeks talented copywriter for long-term project" - how are you supposed to meet their needs if you don't know what they are? Aw, well, I digress...

Allena, you rock.

Deb- we 'missed' you even if you were writing every day! Glad you're back.

Hate mail senders- thanks for bringing amusement to my Sunday. I'd tell you to stop bugging such a great person as Deb, but then what would I read on Sunday for a good laugh? My pastor's sermon?

Dear Mark Not Anonymous,
Blogging is the newest and most progressive form of freelance writing to date. I get more than half my income from blogging. Stop being a tool.
