Some of the samples of my writing are on this site. I have been writing for them for about 2 years and writing for other sites for about 3 years. I hope you will consider that as education because I only have a high school education but I did make very good grades.

Really! I'd be happy to receive that, but I guess it's all a matter of perspective. I could easily do at least 5 is a day, and $200/day is pretty good for me!

I'm wondering how many responses a company would get if the job was doing a brake job on a Ford Escort for $40-$50...or some other service.

I once spoke to a publisher about editing his small, very politically oriented (right wing) newspaper. I asked him about a budget for good local freelancers and he looked at me like I was nuts. "I just buy the content," he said, as if it were something you could arrange to have dumped in your yard...like gravel for your driveway or something. Personally, I think that publications that offer $40 for a 500-word article should be universally ignored.

I scan to PDF files. Most everyone can read a PDF. I use CutePdf to convert files. Cheaper than full adobe writer.

Erricka,

I've always understood it to be that samples do not have to be published, rather just a sample of your writing to showcase your abilities. Clips are your published pieces.

As it was put on of my favorite writing forums: Clips are always samples, but not all samples are clips.

So by requesting samples, the requestor is not seeking proof that you've been published, but rather would like to see whether your style of writing fits the desired output.

I keep my samples on my webpage. That way, I can provide a quick link to specific clips and the web site gives a more complete picture of me as a writer.

I always just send samples in Word. I guess it isn't proof they've been published, but nobody has questioned me about that.

Wow, the distinction between onsite and telecommute really DOES make a nice difference! Thanks!
ALSO, ANY FEEDBACK on the following situation: All the time the recruiter wants the applicant to send "writing samples," yet all they provide is their e-mail address, not a fax number.

Does this mean scanned clips? Or samples in the form of a Word document? If they're in the form of a Word document, this isn't proof of publication.

On the other hand, not every recipient of my scans knows how to work the HP image site to open up the scan, either.

My resume has online links to articles, but these are not my best samples.
