Hi Jodee and Deb and Everyone Else
@Jodee Thank you for the leads. I actually was able to look at them earlier today because it is yet another snow day in Ottawa!

@Deb maybe a talk about “clips” would be good. I know we need them, and we sure love to collect them, but how to people that ghostwrite or copywrite (is that the correct term) show clips for their work if their name is not included?…..Just wondering.

So sorry, I just thought I could make a correction and it was posted twice. Oops!

I have a question that I’m thinking someone here might be able to answer. I’m thinking of creating a website to house my resume, a bio, and my writing samples. I figure it’ll be easier to direct people to my website to see samples rather than having to attach large files to emails. My question is, does this leave my work open for people out there in cyberspace to copy my words? Is there any sort of copyright thing that extends to work on your own personal website?
    Thanks.

    Thank you!!!

I just discovered your amazing service.

You are good people. Thank you for this.

Hey Lauren: My site does say “copyright” on it. However, I think anyone that wants to steal your words will do it anyway, especially on the web.

If your work has been published and run on the web, people might steal it anyway. I Google my name once in a while, and it’s weird how many times stories get picked up — the entire story…

Either way, I still think it’s nice to have a site. Good luck!

Aw geez, at least we know you are human! ;)

P.S. I had other things to attend to first thing anyway, this is just fine…

@Lauren - I post links to work on other pages. Stealing work is common, and it’s happened to me. The time it did happen, I went to the website owner and complained. I got no where with him, so I went to the company that hosted the website and lodged a complaint. It took about a week to get a response, but they took it very seriously and within a day the website had been taken down completely and never returned.

It took a bit of time to get a response, but I felt justified when they did delete the site. I have a website through BlueHost and they have clear policies (if you read the fine print when signing up) about copying others material - if caught they will remove your site and ban your IP address.
