Welcome to Monday Markets. Thanks for your patience the last couple of Mondays. Hope you can use some of today’s writers markets. These markets all accept work from beginning as well as long-time freelancers so please don’t be afraid to query. Also note, it’s a good idea to purchase a sample copy of the publications before you query to be sure you’re a good fit. Don’t forget to read the online guidelines thoroughly before querying.

Hips and Curves

From the Guidelines:

What we want:

  • Smart, sexy and short- 500 to 1000 word stories that grab the readers’ attention with the first sentence. We want stories that portray a moment in time, a small peek into someone’s life, just one issue rather than an entire life history.

  • Steamy without explicit sex- How much sexual tension can you create without using detail-driven, graphic descriptions?

  • Curvy Women- Stories involving "well-rounded" women, from the point of view of a full-figured woman or the admirer of a full-figured woman.

  • Lingerie- Since we are a lingerie site, lingerie must be an integral part of the story. Use one or two items from our site in a natural and appealing way. Don’t say, “He took off her chemise, tossed it on the floor and said he liked her better naked.”

  • Humor- We love humor, so if it works, use it.

Payment is upon publication – generally $150 – $200 per piece.

Growing Wealth

Please read Guidelines (a PDF) for full details. Growing Wealth pays $125 – $700 per article and payment is upon acceptance.

The Dabbling Mum:

From the Guidelines:

WRITE FOR US
We welcome both new and veteran writers (men and women alike). We’re really interested in originals and reprints that have not been blasted all over the Internet. And unlike many websites that have gone to non-paying status, we’re a paying market! The Dabbling Mum pays on acceptance, not on publication.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Everything about our terms, payment, needs, etc. are spelled out in complete detail on this web page. Read over it, pray about it, and if you believe this publication can help you or your writing can help someone else, we would be honored to read your submission.
ARTICLE LENGTH
Keep articles between 500 and 1500 words or specified length for current topics being accepted.
RESPONSE TIME
We do our best to respond with at least a form letter within 12 to 16 weeks of submission.
* Please note: No matter how reliable we like to believe technology is, it sometimes fails. If you feel there’s a chance your article didn’t go through the submission form, don’t hesitate to drop us an email via our back-up email account.

Payment is $25 – $50 per.

The Funny Times

From the Guidelines:

There is no limit to our scope and we cover just about everything that can be funny including politics, news, relationships, food, technology, pets, work, death, environmental issues, business, religion, seasonal events and everything else relating to the general human condition. Since we carry no advertising we don’t have an editorial calendar, but we have a lead-time of several months, e.g., December holiday material should be mailed for consideration in September. We only buy one-time reproduction rights and do not require exclusives; all other rights stay with the copyright holder. We pay $25-40 for cartoons based on reproduced size and $60 for stories. We pay upon publication. In addition to being paid, we also provide our published contributors with a complimentary Funny Times subscription and will swap website links.

Thanks for this! I’m glad your starting up Monday Markets, for sure.

  2. Very helpful…just one more thing that makes coming to this site enjoyable. I learn something new or valuable with every visit.

A bit late, but I’ve written for Growing Wealth before. I was paid $250 for a 1,200 word feature, which is about $0.21 per word. They’re a very freelancer-friendly magazine, and I was able to choose my topic from their calendar/list. They expect very high quality, and there’s definitely an opportunity to score higher-paying features. Three months after my article was published, their website still holds my photo and links back to my site, which I appreciate.

Rock On...
