Ugh! I know. Those horrendous brats make me want to raise my hypothetical future children on nothing more than steamed vegetables and whole grains, playing outdoors with a stick and a cardboard box so they know what it means to appreciate birthday cake and gifts…And yet…the constant decadence is utterly hypnotic.

Did I forget to mention “My Sweet 16″, that show on MTV? I occasionally come across it and I absolutely want to puke because of the self-agrandizing teens who think they’re all that (didn’t we have a post about that??)…..but at the same time, I can’t turn away.

I’m so appalled I have to finish watching the whole show. Fascinated and nauseated all at the same time.

An $800 cake?? Really??

I have several, but here are the ones that come to mind:

1. Self-indulgent writing
2. Staying up entirely too late doing something that doesn’t really need to be done
3. Clearing my plate/bowl/carton when it is full of something sweet and delicious
4. Sleeping in
5. Speeding with the windows down and the volume up
6. Sending text messages to people (read, “members of the opposite sex”) that will almost certainly get me into trouble

Speaking as a Florida native, I have to say there’s absolutely nothing guilty about Key Lime pie because it’s healthy as can be. Key limes are fruit and fruit is good for you, so how could you possibly feel guilty about it?

And if watching reality TV is a crime then I wrote the book on it. No, I mean it. I wrote the book “The Tribe Has Spoken: Life Lessons From Reality TV.”

I really don’t have much time for TV, so I guess that in itself could be a guilty pleasure.

I was a child in the 70′s and early 80′s, so I love anything that would have been played at a roller skating rink.

Ann G – I really like your musical tastes!

Going to a Husker football game in the fall – getting the kids squared away can be a challenge, I live two hours away, and traffic is a nightmare, but the thrill is unbeatable. I only get a few chances a year and I make the most of them.

Yes, the team was very very bad last year, but I’m going to our spring game next month to see what the new coach has to offer. It will be close to a sell-out I’m sure.

Eating anything with gluten – I can’t have any in my house because of my husband’s celiac disease, so it requires a bit of effort.

A personal-sized bottle of merlot while watching a movie with my husband. Or the “Movie Theatre” variety popcorn with all the salt and butter.

A weekend with my husband when the kids all go to the grandparents.

World of Warcraft! And watching David Armand videos on YouTube. Those are my only two. Otherwise, I’m completely responsible and productive, without any ridiculous wastes of time…like watching reruns of Lovespring International on Lifetime.com. OK, ok…World of Warcraft; David Armand videos on YouTube and episodes of cancelled comedies on the Internet, but that’s it…really.

One of the best Britney Spears songs (I really don’t like her but some songs had promise) is a cover that Frank Zappa’s songs did (Dweezil and Ahmet) for “Hit Me Baby”. They turned it kind of dark with tons of guitar since that’s what Dweezil’s known for. And while Britney may be a train wreck, it had to happen. From the time she was what 7?, her parents saw her as a major moneymaker so she was pushed into bypassing childhood and becoming an working adult. Once the incident where she was pregnant and tripped walking up a curb while holding her older son which the media portrayed as being horribly parenting–I fell down a flight of 7 steps when pregnant and certainly that didn’t make me a horrible mom. I actually feel sorry for her today.

My weaknesses are definitely 80′s music. Here comes the one that makes my husband shake his head – I love Abba. I’ve always prefered bands that harmonize like the Eagles, Abba, Little Big Town, Fleetwood Mac.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Southern Pecan coffee is another weakness. Chocolate, another, especially the huge chocolate covered strawberries that a local company (Lake Champlain Chocolates) make that are wickedly expensive but one strawberry often weighs 1 to 1.5 pounds and is truly decadent.
