I wish I could go really far back but when we made the switch from Blogger to Wordpress, a lot of articles were lost. A shame. Anyway, I notice in the comments and in emails I’m being asked questions regarding topics we addressed before here at FWJ. Rather than get redundant on you, I thought I’d bring a few oldies but goodies up to the main page.
- When Freelance Writing Doesn’t Pay – A guest post by veteran freelancer Jeff Pfaller discussing steps one needs to take when promised payments don’t arrive. Discusses the importance of due diligence, when to take legal action and when to let it go.
- When it’s Time to Say Goodbye – Guest blogger Sandy Mitchell talks about when to let the low payers go in favor of higher paying gigs.
- Is Copy Editing Extinct? Karen G. Anderson talks about the importance of and lack of copy editing in the web writing world.
- Do You Have All Your Eggs in One Basket? What happens if your one and only client ceases to exist?
- Do You Use a Resume? The importance of a writing resume.
- Writing for Clicks, Hits and Revenue (Oh My!) Should you work for revenue or traffic only?
- 8 Things You Can Do to Turn a One Time Gig into a Regular Client – Single projects are great, but wouldn’t you rather a regular gig?
- Don’t Give Up on Old Ideas – Look through your files once in a while. You might be amazed at what you’ll find.
- How You Can Tell if Your Content is Being Ripped Off – It’s so annoying isn’t it? You work so hard and someone else steals your content. Here’s how you can tell if someone is ripping you off.
- Is it Too Easy to Get Published Online – And is it a good thing or a bad thing?
- How to Earn Money Blogging - And believe me, you can earn good money blogging.

- 10 Necessary Reasons for Social Networking – And why I never get anything done.
- 5 Reasons You Got the Job - What you did right.
- 5 Reasons You Didn’t Get the Job – What you did wrong.
- Do You Need a College Degree to be a Successful Writer – I don’t have one.

- Freelance Writing Not Everyone Can Do It – Enough Said.
I think that’s enough for now – I’ll bring you more from time to time. Also, just because some of these posts go way back, doesn’t mean the discussion is closed. Feel free to jump in any time!

Hi Deb
Thank you for these “Oldies”. They’re actually “Newbies” to me and I will enjoy taking the time to read through these former posts.
Didn’t think I’d been coming around long enough to remember most of these, but I remember all but a few from the titles. Feeling like an “oldie” now…
Thanks, Deb, for bringing these forward. I bet we can get some fresh discussions going.
@Amy – though we’ve been around for three years, we only had discussion topics for the past year or so.
I’m happy to see you’re one of the regulars.
Oh wow. I was already here when most of the discussions above were posted. And I must say, I learned a lot from FWJ and can’t imagine how I would have fared without it. So Deb, I won’t get tired of telling you time and time again that I appreciate everything you do. Thanks so, SO much.
And to all the more experienced regulars here, from whom I’ve also learned a lot, thanks very much as well. ♥
Thanks so much for the great information. Being new to this site and freelance writing it is definitely helpful to me.
Thanks for running these….I am fairly new here, and these topics are new (and very helpful) to me.
Thanks, Deb!
I haven’t been around for more than a year, so many of these were new to me. I think it’s a few months short of a year since I first stumbled onto this Web site, a few months before the whole Laray Carr debaucle (anyone know if he was ever caught?). I appreciated reading some of the articles I’d missed!
I think I missed out on some of the guest posts you had, Deb. Those “5 reasons You got/didn’t get the job” posts were some of my faves!
