Hello Jodee,
I want to start by thanking you for the incredible job you did with this morning’s job listings. It really is a diversified list.
It just may be a coincidence, but three or four of the Craig’s List ads have been flagged for removal. I hope they have been flagged for legitimate reasons.
@ Maria E: You are most welcome.
Let’s hope those flags are legitimate.
Good morning. Maria, you beat me to it – I noticed the flaggers are out early today.
Does hating the carpet in our livingroom count as experience with flooring?
Has anyone written for Today.com or know anyone with experience writing for them? Their compensation description was pretty sketchy.
@Angelique – That was the first thing that went through my head. We had StainMaster plush carpeting put in two years ago. Six months into it, one of my daycare charges knocked the cup of coffee I was holding out of my hand and it stained the cream carpeting. I called StainMaster who told me to use cold water and vinegar. That didn’t take the stain out. I was then told that they send in their team of cleaners at $200 an hour at my expense – if they can’t get the stains out in 8 hours – THEN they would replace the carpeting free of charge. That means $1600 to clean the carpet when I paid $1800 for it. So much for their warranty – I would NEVER recommend them!
Yes, six of the jobs I wanted to look at were flagged. What a bummer, that people don’t have any self-confidence and don’t think they can land the job without excluding everyone else from applying!
To the eager beaver flagger – Thanks a lot…not. Some of us depend on freelance writing jobs to MAKE OUR LIVING.
@Fiona – Call me Pollyanna, but I really want to believe it’s just a conincidence that all those posts are flagged, I said, I want to believe it; I didn’t say I actually did.
@Angelique – It’s a smidge more complicated than that. Ann G is actually on to something, because maintenance is an issue. Flooring covers carpet, laminates, natural woods, to name just a few of the categories. That doesn’t begin to discuss issues like textures, composition, etc.
How do I know this? Years ago I used to be a “Big Ticket” retail trainer, and it was my job to instruct the salespersons who sold goods like flooring. furniture etc. When I saw that listing, all those memeories came flooding back, and I promptly skipped to the next item on the list.
Hey I was looking to email eiteher Deb or Jodee directly but I could not find it listed any where in the website. Anyone know where I can find that?
Hello I was looking to email eiteher Deb or Jodee directly but I could not find it listed any where in the website. Anyone know where I can find that?
@Ann & Marie:
Thanks for both your responses. You made me laugh — and groan a little, too.
Don’t get me started on vinyl flooring…
Dan – Today.com. I was offered two blogging jobs from them, both $150 a month. The person who responded, however, wrote like a two year old. The email was one giant sentence and hardly made sense. I had to read it twice just to figure out what it said.
Overall, the odd site and horrible email I got gave me a bad feeling about the place, so I turned down the gigs.
@everyone on flooring: I’m starting to think that many of us here could start our own site on flooring… I have experience installing Pergo to “encase” linoleum that has asbestos in it!
Yeah, what is up with those flags?
Thanks for all the postings! I clicked on the flooring job very early this morning, and it was already flagged. I was bummed since I work as a flooring service rep for different Home Depots! (until I can get the writing part going well enough, of course)
So, when it’s flagged for removal, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve found a writer to work with? it can mean that it’s been flagged because of a complaint?
On Craigslist, users can flag a post if it’s something illegal, etc etc etc. I think it takes 2 flags to get it pulled? Maybe 1? But from what it seems like MIGHT be happening here…some job searchers flag the legitimate post after they get the info, so the competition never can see the job opening.
Usually if the job was filled, it would just be pulled…it wouldnt say flagged.
One, I noted was marked as “deleted by author,” which is an entirely different thing. There, I assume they found someone, or changed their mind or something.
No, the flaggings are people trying to keep other people from seeing the job opportunities, and it’s poisoning the well. Craigslist really needs to tighten their flagging procedures to help make sure there’s some legitimate reason for removing an ad. As things stand, it’s not a terribly useful resource for finding freelancers.
@ Jonathan: You can e-mail Deb at debng@gmail.com
If you are looking for me, send it to jodeecredmond@gmail.com
The pregnancy blogger (b5) has already been filled. That was fast!
I think CL should have it set up where a certain number of flaggings will remove a post. Right now I think it’s just one, but I could be wrong.
@Dan – I know three writers working for Today.com. They all swear they get their checks on time every month. I applied for a position today and was accepted within 2 hours, so I’ll report back in the future and let everybody know how it works out.
I am blogging at Today.com; it seems like it’s a start up plan for $5.00. If you do well, get traffic and follow the rules, they’ll keep you on board.
Shame the videogame writer job was removed
Thanks for the leads anyway, Jodee.
Re: Craigslist-
It takes more than one flag to get a post removed. If I remember it correctly, when I asked them at one point, they said it takes about six to have an entry become flagged. Once flagged, their team then can go in and read all future ads from that person before they are approved to make sure they meet the requirements listed.
@ Jack B: You’re welcome. There is another video game lead on today’s list (Tues); you might want to check it out.
@Blair – That’s odd. I got a form email back and it was perfectly fine. Maybe they fixed the message since the time you got yours?

Um, I second what Diana said. (It’s actually a little scary.)
