I think a lot of the ads on CL are bogus. You can pretty much identify the ones that are but in some cases you have to click and then click and then wham! you find you have to sign up for some offer. I was able to find three legitimate local jobs so some firms do use CL but just as many nefarious people do also. I understand the urge to make money but I wonder why so many people run games instead of trying to find legitimate ways to make money.

Thought I’d post this to help with people whose jobs come up with flags. If it’s on craigslist, it’s more than likely posted in a few states, so heres some easy steps to see the original application.

1. Copy and paste the Jodee or Deb’s description into google.
2. More than likely, the first result will be the craigslist listing which has been flagged.
3. However, the google result will still display the text of the page
4. Copy a line of this, put it into “quotations, like this”, so google searchs for the text exactly.
5. It might only come up with that same page – however, google omits duplicates… so click to show omitted results.
6. Hopefully they’ve posted it in a few other states – google should now show all of these, and it’s unlikely that they will all be flagged.

Sorry if this sounds complicated… it’s really just a simple google search, and it might help you get that job! I could always take some screen grabs and somehow post them if someone would find it useful.

The tech blogger ad is a scam. Keep an eye on the email account you used to contact him. If you start getting a flood of Spam, please let us know here, and save that email he sent you with the link to the auto loan or education site, because it probably contains some kind of ID that gives him credit for sending you. We might be able to use that ID to track him down, have him prosecuted for fraud and Spamming, and extract damages. If you start getting hundreds of disgusting Spams a day, you’ll want to go after him. He’s almost certainly the kind of person who sees people who want to do honest work to earn a living as nothing but foolish prey.

@ Amanda: It is possible that some ads are flagged as being miscategorized, prohibited, spam, etc. A person who placed an ad can choose to remove it when they have enough responses, which is different from being flagged.

This is pure curiosity on my part, and since I spend the day with..well, me and my own thoughts, I thought I’d ask some of you, too.

Do you think some of these Craigslist posts end up being “Flagged for Removal” (by the time I catch them, at least) because they’re being flooded with responses or because the posts/jobs were questionable?
