LoveToKnow is seeking freelance writers to create web articles on topics pertaining to cheerleading on an ongoing basis. LoveToKnow is a rapidly growing informational site with useful articles in channels devoted to a variety of popular topics.

Pay is per article (generally $20 for a 650+ word article) and work is part-time, but we ask writers to commit to creating approximately 20 articles per month.

Interested? Learn more and apply online at: http://www.lovetoknow.com/write-for-us.htm

Please highlight your relevant financial experience, and include "cheerleading" in the qualifications field. In addition, please include at least two short writing samples as part of your application.

Deb’s recommendation: I was an editor at LoveToKnow for a couple of years and the first writer they hired when they first started out. It’s truly a nice place with the nicest people.

I’ve applied three times for different topics and never heard from them.

Same here… It’s funny that I can get hired for a company like ask.com but Love to Know doesn’t seem to want me!

  3. Ann G. says:

I read it and wondered why they want you to “highlight your relevant financial information” when the job’s writing about cheerleading?

I’m no whiz at math, but that looks like they’d like you to apply for and commit to writing 20 articles per month for about 3 pennies per word. Why would anybody with any talent and experience (financial, cheerleading, or otherwise) waste time to apply for such lousy wages? More to the point, why would anybody list such information as a freelancing opportunity? Gas prices triple, food prices double…and outfits like LoveToKnow want writers to work for Depression Era pennies. It’s outrageous. A person can make more than that swapping pocketknives at the local flea market.

I’ve also tried applying here several times. I’m published in print, so I don’t just write for the Internet. Nevertheless, this market still doesn’t want me – so weird LOL

I have been writing for Love to Know for a couple of months and was proud to be hired by them especially as I live in the UK. I was interviewed and started contributing after a couple of weeks of really useful and informative training! They truly are a great group of people to work with.

I have been happily working for LTK for over a year. I have seen many, many companies who pay far less. Most articles take about an hour to do. $20 per hour seems like good wages to me.

  8. Nikki says:

@WAHMBrenda – The same applies here as well. I don’t write only for the Internet and I’ve applied a number of times but I must not have what they want!

  9. Deb says:

@John Clausen – My rule is to not post anything under $10 an hour. Jodee and I do our best to weed out scams, term paper mills and gigs paying only revenue among others. We don’t post $2 gigs or the people who want 50 articles for fifty cents each.

I know $10 per hour is considered a low wage for many of us, but it’s a very good wage in some parts of the country – and world. Moreover, it’s not up to me to decide what one person should charge or earn. I can help to educate by discussing scams, ethics and $2 jobs, but if someone wants to write a $20 article I’m not going to stop her. Better to do that for a reputable company , and LTK is, than to earn $2 an hour from an unsavory web master.

When I was a (wedding) writer for LTK, I could write two or three articles in one hour – that’s $40 to $60 per hour. Not bad work if you ask me.

I agree we need to make sure we don’t sell ourselves short – but who decides what rates are acceptable? And who am I to decide that for someone else?

I appreciate what you post here for job possibilities. True not all will be in my area or to my liking, but there is a wide range of them when they are posted. Plus, all the work that goes into looking, making sure they are this way and that, that time is valuable. Also, not to mention that most sites not only want you to set-up an account, but some even want to have people pay to see the jobs and probably get some nice spam e-mail while they are at it.

I have been freelancing for several years now and found this particular website not too long ago. I commend you for working as you do to provide a place where people can go and understanding from experience how hard at times it can be to find just the right freelancing job.

I’m going to wade in with my 2 cents on the subject of LTK. I have been working there for over a year now. I’m a site editor as well. They offer steady work and pay on time. The people are great. Your work is published under your own name. Most of the things I work on are of the ghostwriting variety and if someone wants to see a sample of my (credited) work, then I can use some of those links if I want to.

In addition, you are asked to add a bio to the channels you work on. In your bio, you can add a link to your personal writing site. Someone who likes your work may choose to contact you about other opportunities by following the link to your site.

Working for LTK may also help you with your own web page ranking. Since LTK tends to rank well with search engines, the link to your site will get crawled along with new articles that are posted. If you have a higher-ranking site linked to your own web page, your ranking may go up. (It’s not a foolproof strategy, but it can’t hurt.)

As far as posting higher-paying gigs goes, I am always on the lookout for more and better places to look for leads. If anyone has any suggestions, please let us know and I will check them out.

I this Deb’s argument about per hour wages and variable costs of living is right on! And should be trotted out every time someone complains about $10/hour being too low.

While I wouldn’t go for a gig for that pay right now, living in New England, I would definitely be down when I permanently relocate to Mexico.

Of course, there’s always that sticky wicket of the ocassional requirement that a writer live in the US!

  13. Cathryn says:

I just found this site and I think that it is sad that people complain so much about the money people pay writers. I am in Detroit, Michigan and every penny here counts here. We are the highest unemployment rate in the entire country and any type of money is good money. I just recently wrote 20 pages for $50.00 in less than 24 hours. You have to do what you have to do. If the job is not good enough for you, shut your mouth and move on. Other people may need that kind of money and you insulting these potential employers is only going to ruin the chances for other writers to get jobs.
