Saw a job today that pays $0.25 per 500 words. (not on this site.) Still doesn’t beat the one I saw at a dime for 1000 words.

I’m glad that Today.com worked out. I would like to note to writers that this investigation process is part of the deal when a new co. goes live, and that you shouldn’t take it as a personal affront if others are investigating and poking around. A harder shell is needed in the freelance writing world (trust me lol). “For real” companies are fine with answering these questions, as they have nothing to hide. The reps from Today.com professionally answered our questions without taking them as a personal offense.

I applied for a specific position that they wanted back in March and I heard back to them after a few days. It wasn’t right away but within a week.

Well, I was rejected. I’m thinking that the topic I chose was probably already full, although I would think they would remove it. I did try applying for another topic. If I get rejected again, I’ll have to wonder. Not that I’m the world’s greatest writer, but I do make good money doing it.

Tamara, I believe you can use a psuedonym. Also I think they set it up with a general template but you should be able to change it to one of their other WP themes. I selected one and set up everything on my own. It was the first blog I set up start to finish. It only took a day initially.

You could pose the question to the contact under the VIP area if you wanted something else.

For anyone who did get signed up, the WAHM forum does have a few threads running under WAHM for Writers offering advice and for link exchanges.

Do you think it would be possible to do the Today thing using a psuedonym? I have a few ideas, but they could conflict with my other life. Also, can those who have started up a site tell me if they provide the weblog format. Each blog I’ve seen looks somewhat different. Thanks for the heads-up, Deb, et al.

How long did it take everyone to hear from Today.com? Did you get a rejection if you were not accepted?

Tina – Wow. Lucky break that you were accepted and went live the same day. Most networks usually take a couple of weeks to a month before sending a blog live because they have to design the blog and require a ten post minimum.

@Violette – I didn’t say it’s not legit – just that writers should proceed with caution. I know of another writer who submitted a sample purposely riddled with errors and misspellings and she received an acceptance within two minutes of her submission. This could be something or it can be absolutely nothing. My recommendation is always to proceed with caution.

Here is what I know.

- Today.com pays
- Today.com has not accepted everyone, I’ve heard at least one complain she didn’t get in, I’m sure there are more who haven’t bothered to complain and have just moved on.
- I did sign a contract in March, but it looked like they may have changed to one of those online rules, regulations, guidelines type of things. Still LEGAL.
- I know a lot of good writers who have gotten in. Some waited one to two weeks during the first few hires. They may be accepting so many at once since many bloggers lose interest after a while and they are figuring there will be some attrition. I remember submitting a sample or a link to another site I write for.
- Today.com has made some changes that I could see since March in their interface but most of their focus is on the parts that the bloggers see right now to give us more information. Frankly I can’t see how that has anything to do with how legit a company is. My gosh, look at UPS. Brown anyone?

Regarding Today…I did a little poking around and here’s what I found out:

-They accept everyone who applies
- They don’t offer contract or any paperwork upon signing on
- They’re accepting too many people at once
- The front page design is truly awful.

I’m not saying this isn’t a good place to work – just to proceed with caution as they don’t seem to be taking their time to choose writers.

I just recently started at Today.com and I’m really enjoying it. I’m at BreakingNews.Today.com. I just wish that they’d let us have more than one VIP blog, so far it’s only one per blogger. If I could I’d have several blogs at Today, I like their system.

I have been writing for Today for about two months now. They are pretty good with payment, although my first check took a little while to get to me. I think that was actually a problem with Canada post more than it was on their end.
