Diana – funny you should bring this up. I heard back about a blogging job but I have to do a trial period (paid) but need to download a 14 day free trial of software for online meetings. Like you I’m wary of giving my CC number out for a free trial and don’t see why I would need online meeting software for a blogging job.

The $700 deal does not seem right to me – there was no mention of writing samples/topics you would be writing about, nor was there mention of how you would be paid. That always makes me uncomfortable

I applied for three different jobs last week that came with a request to join some kind of network for a free 14-day trial. I find it really interesting that the jobs were VERY different (one paid 5-15 per article, while another started at $25) but they all had the same request. I’m wondering if this is a new type of scams or companies are really using this service. It seems so odd to me. Anyway, I didn’t take anybody on. I’m not sharing my cc number for this.

Your bank may be able to open a new, separate account to give the company for the wire transfer. Usually you only need a minimal amount to open an account. That way you won’t be giving someone you don’t know access to all your money and after you get paid, you can move it to your “main” account. It sounds like a pain, but better than eating a loss.

I also had my share of wire transfer when I worked with an L.A. based internet sample provider. It all worked pretty quick and smoothly. The transfer fee was as minimal as 1$.

I have also been paid by wire transfer from a publisher in Italy. It’s the easiest way to move money from country to country. I was nervous about it but I’m sure the bank has security precautions in place to prevent any tampering with the account in cases such as these.
