Hi to Anyone Listening,

I want to join in on the Demand Studio topic. I just got accepted to write for them but the application requires I give up my Social Security number, which I am wary of. Does anyone have some thoughts on this? I'd appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks, and have a nice day.

About Demand Studios-
I have been writing articles there for over a month now. I have written on their titles and some I suggested on my own. They no longer allow recipes as how-to. They seem to have kept more people at a 10 article limit also. Some folks were dropped down to 5 per week.
I have stayed at 10 at a time for $15 each. I have been paid every week, though they're not consistent about what day of the week lately.

So far, my experience has been good. However someone mentioned above wanting to supplement their income - don't count solely on DS. That $150 a week is great, unless they stop offering work to you, or some of you articles don't get approved, or they site shuts down, etc. Definitely go for it but keep looking for something else to do along with it.

Hi all -
Re: Demand Studios, I applied some time back for a writer job, and now whenever I try to get in I get this: Welcome to Demand Studios!
Thank you for your interest in Demand Studios. At this time, we don’t have any assignments that fit your background and experience.

I can't see any lists, and can't get past this. I have plenty of experience in freelance writing.

A side note- thanks for keeping this site running. I have a couple of steady writing jobs that I found through leads you posted.

@ Adam, it's not just my PC. I've used other PCs and it's doing the same thing.

@ Erricka, thanks for the opinion, but right now I need some supplemental income. My husband is a full-time student finishing his degree at an unpaid internship (that is a requirement). I need the money and $15 is a lot of money to me right now. I do agree with you though if I was trying to do this full time I wouldn't bother with it.

Thanks.

Hi Deb and Jodee,

I just wanted to say thank you!! for working hard to maintain this site for all us freelance writers. I found my first freelance job here (applied for it at 6 am) and I'm hoping it'll help pay for my living expenses as I try move to China and try to pursue a journalism career there after graduation next month.

I am graduating in Journalism and International Studies, and I have to say that none of the curricula in journalism even talked about how to land a new media writing job, although it was wonderful in other regards. I am truly grateful for this resource. Thank you so much!

Pamela,

How ironic you write this, because only a handful of postings above yours, is my very similar experience with Demand Studios. After all I've read about them in subsequent postings, I have decided not to waste my time re-applying, only to get paid $15 for an article that must have never appeared elsewhere and that I can't re-sell. I can do better than this.

Hi,

I found this site a couple of weeks ago. I'm looking for some freelance stuff. I was looking at the Demand Studios one, but every time I try to set up an account to submit my application, I keep getting told it's invalid account. I tried to contact DS directly but haven't heard anything. Didn't know if a similar experience has happened to anyone else.

I am a lurker who visits your site frequently. I've been meaning to drop you a note to thank you for posting a job several months back. I found one of my best and favorite clients through your site. So thank you very much for scouring the job boards for us. It is truly appreciated.

It's true, your content becomes theirs, but when you need to pay the bills and the articles aren't exactly brain science you use them.
The " step by step" bit of the articles gets you to a point where you can rewrite those and put them on AC if u wanted to or somewhere else.
It takes forever for things like that to be redistributed well, or maybe I do things wrong.
At any rate I am not too attached to the content. Fifteen bucks for eight lines about how to watercolour isn't horrible and I can always write it better somewhere else.
Maybe my way of thinking is more expendible but I have worked for worse pay when I didn't know better, like three to one fifty an article. Considering it pays weekly I dont complain. Shrug

I am on the side of the fence that does not like Demand.

They pay very poorly. They accept and publish terrible content. So even if you write well you are published in a cache of poor writing. And once you write an article for them it is not yours. So you can't even try to resell your content. It doesn't mean anything to have your content published by them as their standards are so low.

Also (and this was before the new system, which looks easier) they continually lost my information and W2 and were slow in paying. The editors RARELY responded to questions or concerns. And maybe that's changed, but for what they pay it's not worth it.

Re Demand Studios . . . read the terms of the agreement carefully so you understand exactky what you're giving up (basically everything).

I also recommend the Demand Studios job. I have been with them for a few weeks and so far, I really like the job. They pay very promptly (once a week via PayPal)and I am earning $15.00 per article (minimum 400 words). I normally write about health, careers and relationships, but here are a variety of topics to choose from. So, go ahead and submit or re-submit your application. Good luck!

The full time and freelance medical writer job in Montreal mentions nothing about freelance work and nothing comes up when searching for jobs/employment on their web site. It looks like it might be a full time on-site job with no benefits (thus the "freelance" designation).

Deb : You can't offer assignments? Are you sure? I can always offer assignments. There is a suggest assignment box and they approve your titles or not. As far as I know they approve it on the same day. most of mine go through the same day and usually get reviewed about a week upon accepting.

Fiona :actually it seems like your applying via Ehow, which is different. If you go through demandstudios it has a very good system i like it because you just write the articles from inside their whatchamacallit and do the edits there too, avoiding all the hassle of attachments and stuff.
You might have to reapply to get through. As far as I know it isn't that hard to get accepted into their program and it certainly beefs up your online article portfolio ( i have done about a hundred this month!)
The one downside is that it's someties kind of mindless, but as I said it keeps you afloat in between higher paying gigs

@Erikka - They don't offer assignments. If I wanted to I could log on, view the available assignments and choose the ones i'd like to write. So far I haven't had a chance to do so.

weird i have had really good luck with them
Try suggesting articles fiona, that's what I do. I steer clear from the " how to train a falcon " ones.
Sometimes one out of ten they might reject an article but if it's your own suggestion they are more likely to accept it on your terms
Some of the articles I wrote for were stuff I can write easily , since I paint I write a lot about stuff like
How to create acrylic effects
Salt water technique for watercolours

Recipes do well, as well as other stuff.
It just depends scour your house for ideas.
But I really do recommend them I have been working for them for a bout a month and a half, and although they haven't published the content yet it's working
It's different from Ehow, they pay you upfront, the disadvantage is that they keep the rights to your content as opposed to associated content and others but those take forever for you to see the cash

Deb,

Thanks, but what's now discouraging is that you, with all your experience and being accepted by DS, are wondering if you'll ever have a chance to write for them. Were you accepted a long time ago but then have heard nothing since?

Ericka - Demand studios is fine. It's the former Write for Cash/Pagewise people. You sign up and on approval you can choose from their pool of articles.

They're definitely on the up and up and I know many writers who are very happy with them.

Try switching browsers, cleaning out your caches, etc. I tried the online form and not only did it work fine, but I was accepted. Don't know if I'll ever get a chance to write for them. But it's good to know it works.

CAUTION:
Be wary of Demand Studios. They keep advertising for writers. I applied online (a hassle), and when I clicked to submit, nothing happened. I kept clicking, resubmitting, and checking everything over to see what could be causing the glitch, and nothing happened. It was "dead." Their web site does NOT have a direct e-mail address. It's one of those blind e-mail forms. So I sent a nicely written message explaining the glitch. THEY NEVER REPLIED. I keep seeing their ads running, and I say to myself, "Screw them."

Fiona,

Just check back with Demand regularly. Their content is constantly changing. And they also have a function where you can suggest articles for submission. Not sure how that all plays out, except they accept or reject the topic before you ever write a word.

Maryam,
I've had very little luck with Demand. They asked me to write a few articles for eHow which I did but whenever I check in with their site to see what else is available, the answers they want written are ridiculous - last time I checked, how to have a pet gorilla was a question. (Seriously!)
Am I missing something?
