I want to join in on the Demand Studio topic. I just got accepted to write for them but the application requires I give up my Social Security number, which I am wary of. Does anyone have some thoughts on this? I’d appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks, and have a nice day.

So far, my experience has been good. However someone mentioned above wanting to supplement their income – don’t count solely on DS. That $150 a week is great, unless they stop offering work to you, or some of you articles don’t get approved, or they site shuts down, etc. Definitely go for it but keep looking for something else to do along with it.

I can’t see any lists, and can’t get past this. I have plenty of experience in freelance writing.

A side note- thanks for keeping this site running. I have a couple of steady writing jobs that I found through leads you posted.

@ Erricka, thanks for the opinion, but right now I need some supplemental income. My husband is a full-time student finishing his degree at an unpaid internship (that is a requirement). I need the money and $15 is a lot of money to me right now. I do agree with you though if I was trying to do this full time I wouldn’t bother with it.

I just wanted to say thank you!! for working hard to maintain this site for all us freelance writers. I found my first freelance job here (applied for it at 6 am) and I’m hoping it’ll help pay for my living expenses as I try move to China and try to pursue a journalism career there after graduation next month.

I am graduating in Journalism and International Studies, and I have to say that none of the curricula in journalism even talked about how to land a new media writing job, although it was wonderful in other regards. I am truly grateful for this resource. Thank you so much!

How ironic you write this, because only a handful of postings above yours, is my very similar experience with Demand Studios. After all I’ve read about them in subsequent postings, I have decided not to waste my time re-applying, only to get paid $15 for an article that must have never appeared elsewhere and that I can’t re-sell. I can do better than this.

I found this site a couple of weeks ago. I’m looking for some freelance stuff. I was looking at the Demand Studios one, but every time I try to set up an account to submit my application, I keep getting told it’s invalid account. I tried to contact DS directly but haven’t heard anything. Didn’t know if a similar experience has happened to anyone else.

I am a lurker who visits your site frequently. I’ve been meaning to drop you a note to thank you for posting a job several months back. I found one of my best and favorite clients through your site. So thank you very much for scouring the job boards for us. It is truly appreciated.

They pay very poorly. They accept and publish terrible content. So even if you write well you are published in a cache of poor writing. And once you write an article for them it is not yours. So you can’t even try to resell your content. It doesn’t mean anything to have your content published by them as their standards are so low.

Also (and this was before the new system, which looks easier) they continually lost my information and W2 and were slow in paying. The editors RARELY responded to questions or concerns. And maybe that’s changed, but for what they pay it’s not worth it.

Recipes do well, as well as other stuff.
It just depends scour your house for ideas.
But I really do recommend them I have been working for them for a bout a month and a half, and although they haven’t published the content yet it’s working
It’s different from Ehow, they pay you upfront, the disadvantage is that they keep the rights to your content as opposed to associated content and others but those take forever for you to see the cash

Thanks, but what’s now discouraging is that you, with all your experience and being accepted by DS, are wondering if you’ll ever have a chance to write for them. Were you accepted a long time ago but then have heard nothing since?

They’re definitely on the up and up and I know many writers who are very happy with them.

Try switching browsers, cleaning out your caches, etc. I tried the online form and not only did it work fine, but I was accepted. Don’t know if I’ll ever get a chance to write for them. But it’s good to know it works.

Just check back with Demand regularly. Their content is constantly changing. And they also have a function where you can suggest articles for submission. Not sure how that all plays out, except they accept or reject the topic before you ever write a word.
