“Production Company wants aspiring writers…” I should think so!!! Read their ad – it’s over-loaded with incomplete thoughts; incomplete sentences; run-on sentences. Basically it comes off as if written by a fly-by-night organization. Based on just the ad, I’d turn and walk away…fast!

Okay, this has nothing to do with the job itself, just he wording in the boomer related ad.

“aging-midlifers and Boomers from 40-60+ years of age” I am on the very low end of that particular age range and calling me an “aging-midlifer” just about made me hyperventilate. AAACCCKKK! Is that what I really am?

Just a small freak out. I’ll go back to working now.

DON’T YOU HATE when there’s a writing ad on CL and all the recruiter says is they need writers? NOTHING more? They don’t have the common decency to name the topics they’re looking for? “We need good writers” is WAY to generic and vague. What is this? Travel writers? Food? Parenting? Relationships? Health and Fitness? Outdoor sports? Hunting? Automotive? Real estate? Finance? Wine? What IS it with these vague, generic ads?

Is it such a hardship to specify subject material? Does CL charge $100 per word in their ads or what? This makes no sense. Is there an explanation?

So ridiculous I think this is, that several times I have shot a snooty response (anonymously) criticizing them for not specifying writing topic.

good to know about the dating relationship articles…oh and by the way, a week ago there was an ad for a uk travel magazine writing job, not that it isnt legit but it was basically a way to promote their site you have to send your article and it may or may not be accepted so its just like regular magazine writing queries.
Yeah SEO thanks for the clarification, i figured as much there is also some software you can use to find SEO keywords. What i hate about the – promoting traffic articles that someimtes people care less about the quality of the articles and more about the traffic potential.
Adam The entry level stuff sounds about right but good for college grads just getting started, I guess you have to start somewhere

@ Maryam, I think “entry level” tends to mean they want someone they can push around, give boring assignments to and not pay very much.

Doesn’t mean it’s not a great opportunity though.

Ann, you might want to try trashmail. You can plug it in to firefox, and right click on a text field and paste a new trash email address that you can set to expire after a certain number of days, or a certain number of emails. There's a link to install the extension at the top of the page. I've been using it for years. Great stuff.

Dating/Relationships Writer has been posted at Online Writing Jobs before. I applied a couple months ago and then was told to complete the application process I had to go sign up at the site and they would send me information for adding content to the site. All I got out of it was 350 spam emails per day.

Avoid it!

When I write SEO articles, they tell me to take keywords, mention the eact phrase at least three times in the first 250 words, and after that, make sure some combination of those words is present throughout the entire article.

For instance if my searchable keyword phrase is “New Jersey online educators,” then I have to make sure that exact phrase appears about three times in the first 250 words of my article. And then I also want to use parts of that phrase throughout the article as well. So I could use “New Jersey” in one sentence adn “online educators” in another, etc.

I hope that’s what these articles mean as well, but at least that’s what past clients have told me.

SEO = Search Engine Optimization. You’ve basically got it right. The key to SEO writing is being able to figure out what keywords both humans and algorithms use to find data, but mostly algorithms.

Hmm interesting leads, i am always wondering about those ” entry” level jobs…does that mean they don’t pay?
SEO, i always wondered what that was EXACTLY i worked for an online marketing firm and they would have me write articles that would have keywords and meta description tags to be searchable on the web. Wonder if that is it?
ALl that technical stuff I hate dealing with, that and silo sites and rss feeds and all that.
