@ Chris – It took me a while to get into blogging. People who know me know that I applied to A LOT of blogging jobs before I landed some good ones (the word “good” might be relative here). I do enjoy the blogging jobs I have, though, so it worked out well in the end. If you don’t have a personal blog, you may want to start doing that so you have something to show to prospective employers.

Deb is busy placing these days text ads on our words, always trying to make a buck. I’ll bet she is the type who searches between sofa cushions for loose change… at other people’s houses.

@Matt- Real quick, my dad’s in the ER again, so I wasn’t around all afternoon and now have a ton of work to make up. I admit I did choose the wrong words there, so yes you are correct. I had meant underemployment.

Someone asked about the college that has the no-work for freshman restriction. I was looking through my neighbor’s college guides that the high school gave him and saw that restriction. I looked at schools in California, Vermont and Mass. so it has to have been one of those. When I’ve found which it was, I’ll share.

I know there are restrictions on athletes with scholarships holding jobs during the season/academic year, but I’ve never heard of restrictions on freshmen and jobs. In fact, I’ve heard the opposite — encouraging freshmen to hold a job or join groups so they don’t have too much free time on their hands. The more scheduled a student is, the tendency to do better academically. So this is definitely news to me.

I wouldn’t bet the farm that these are all online writing jobs either . . .

Hey Booboo! PEI here, but I spent my first 7 years in Sydney and I’m a St. FX grad with two post grad diploma’s. I was making 9 bucks an hour in retail. My husband works out in the oilsands of Alberta and it was actually his idea for me to quit and try to make a living at writing. Like I said, I have two gigs but am finding it hard breaking in beyond that. But I’ll keep at it because it’s what I want to do. And since I did a minor in English it’s nice to be using my degree!

Hey Colleen,

What part of Canada are you from? I’m in NS, and underemployment is huge. I’ve seen job ads looking for people with degrees and years of experience offering $10/hour.

I left teaching because I hated it, and now I make decent money as a full-time writer. I would consider going back to a regular full-time job, but none of the salaries are high enough around here.
