If you’re working for free, how will you get paid in 60 days? Or do you mean you have to do a free sample?

They are looking for 3 samples … I wouldnt write 3 samples personally.

This is the second time (at least) their listing appears here. I applied a couple of weeks or so agoand they contacted me a week or so later, demanding three samples to be delivered the next day.

I refused, ’cause it all looked suspicious to me. Maybe I shouldn’t have, I don’t know. They are still asking for free samples…

For shame!

The only reason I’m looking at any of this stuff now is because I was lucky enough to land a few jobs reviewing videogames when I was about 13. I’d played them my whole life and it proved to be a good starting point for getting into writing. I didn’t get paid for most of my jobs, but I was getting free games, each worth $100(AUD), sometimes 20+ a month, which was enormous payment for someone my age. Also got invited to a lot of exclusive events for launches and stuff.

For videogames, you tend to break it into basic gameplay, graphics, sound, mention how long it will last you and who it interests. Some people will buy something based on brandname alone (similar to an author’s trusted name, I suppose), or if it’s a kids game based on a movie, they’ll often head towards that.

It’s been great for me, because since I’ve started, it has become a more popular medium and the average age becomes older and generally more spread out, meaning I have to work on my audience, the complexity, etc.

I rambled a bit there. Oh well.

@Tai G, I had written an earlier comment about how you can usually view a flagged craigslist post using google… I could perhaps put it somewhere more permanent so people could use it?

In regards to the porn listing (which has been removed by now,anyway), a lot of the review sites like that hook you up with commissions from ads but don’t offer actual payment from the site you’re writing for. They make it sound good a first, then the final agreement is something completely different.

The pay is pretty low to start, but if you get involved with the community, you can learn tons about professional blogging.

And just to let you know — I was rejected at least once by b5. So just keep trying!

My brother is an engineer making $80 an hour, but even he responded a couple weeks ago to the posting for a blu-ray movie reviewer. He offered me the pay to help compose and edit his reviews, but he wanted the free DVDs because they are costing him a fortune.

So for anyone who regularly buys or rents gay porn, the savings alone can make up for the lower payscale.

That’s why I’ve been reviewing books for 8 years without pay. I receive about $500 in advanced copies or first editions every month, some personally autographed. When I was spending $300 to $500 a year on books, the reviewing gig made incredible sense… Even if my house is now wall to wall books in many rooms.

It is all reviewed the same way you review a book, movie, television show… For my book reviews, I always base it on “is this worth the money the publisher is charging me?” I count how intriguing the story line is, if the book’s editors missed a lot (and it happens, I found one non-fiction book with the name Abraham Lincoln spelled “Abrham Lincoln” throughout to me an editor should have caught that!), and if the author created a book I’d be willing to purchase.

With porn, the reviewer has to decide if the sound quality if clear, images clear, offer a synopsis of the plot (harder to do with some porn flicks), and decide if the porn is worth the price or lacking something.

Some good news, after wrestling with wordpress and hosting and FTP and everything for hours I finally got my travel website up (I’m young, I should know these things already, right?).

Nothing much on there yet apart from a couple of hastily compiled posts, and I still have a lot of work to do on design, but starting June 4th there’ll be daily updates of my adventures.
