Re: Reviewing Websites – if this is the same person or people, they are going to require you to sign up for a website first in order to review the site. Then you’ll never hear from them again and you’re spam filters/folders will go into overtime.
Another great list, Jodee. Thank you!
Many thanks for the Istanbul lead, Jodee.
Thanks Jodee!
@ Deb: You are most welcome!
@ Ayda: Hope you get that gig!
thanks for that ann, that whole ” seasoned writers need not apply ” is weird.
I hate spam scams. THey are so tricky
Anybody know anything about the Go Freelance website? I sent a message for more information to the “Proofreader for Startup Educational Development Company” ad and got a reply telling me all applications are going through the Go Freelance site, and I need to sign up for a free account in order to apply.
Thoughts?
Ginny,
That’s a classic. Don’t do it. It’s a fake job to lure you into signing up.
Thanks, BooBoo. That’s frustrating, but when, at the end of the message, the contact person wrote, “They have a simple trial membership so do not let that stop you from applying, you are a great candidate” I thought, this smells fishy.
I got the exact same response (right down to the “They have a simple trial membership so do not let that stop you from applying, you are a great candidate” line) from the proofreader job contact person.
I also thought it sounded a little fishy, so I headed over here to see if anyone else did too! Glad to see that I’m not the only one, and that I didn’t go through with signing up. I definitely think it’s a scam to get people to sign up for the site!
Ginny, I just got exactly the same reply.
Re: Go Freelance. You can get a “free trial” but they charge something like $40 a month for membership. A common complaint is that most forget or don’t receive a notice that their free trial is ending and end up having to pay for a subscription they don’t want.
Another common complaint is that many of the jobs being listed are there just to have something to show. They’re either old or the people aren’t really hiring. Most of the gigs are the same ones you can find for free.
If you want to try Go Freelance, do so at your own risk and make sure you cancel after your trial and you have confirmation. Also, my memory could be sketchy so I recommend researching Go Freelance (Which is really Freelance Work Exchange) thoroughly before committing to anything.
Re: Go Freelance — I asked them to let me know pay rate before signing up and never heard back. Guess I was right when I thought it smelled fishy.
Thanks anyway!
Hi -
New here to the group… this is a great list! Thanks!
I noticed that the “Adult Movie Reviewer” had been removed. I thought that would have been a perfect freelance! LOL!
Best,
~v.v.
Hi, I need a writer for one of my websites. I’m not sure how’s the process to be listed here, and I couldn’t find any e-mail address to write to. Please advice, and sorry for the off-topic comment here.
HI Julian – Feel free to send me your details at [email protected].
Just wanted to let you know that while I am having a hard time getting another contract, the company I am currently blogging for has offered me more work! Yay! Thanks so much for this site!
@ Colleen: That is so cool! Thanks for popping in to let us know!
Yes I emailed the “Go Freelance” person and I didnt hear back from her.
@Julian: You can email me on [email protected].
@Jodee:Thanks a ton Jodee you seem to be putting a lot of effort. Jodee for American President – anyways I am Indian.
The list here is great but I am a bit jinxed. As I normally pursue one big job lead in every 3/4 months. I have applied for a couple in a space of a lil over a month and was told that my app was just a lil late, though satisfactory. Both the employers assured me that he will apprise me of any more work. Has this happened to any of you?
Thanks for the African lead, Jodee.
@Pulkit: I think you did well to get a response at all — most of the time I just never hear anything!
But I don’t let that discourage me, because twice now I have had responses after several weeks — in one case, after three months. And that one resulted in a contract for a $1,000 article.
So — keep plugging! And good luck …
@ Pulkit: You’re sweet! I’m a Canadian, BTW.
@ Damaria: You are most welcome.
Just FYI for everyone,
Freelance Writers for National Health Magazine
and
National Magazine Seeks Freelance and Healthcare Writers
are both the same post for Pulse Magazine.
Just more FYI, it really isn’t a specific opportunity, but rather an invite to fill out a contact form with your article (sort of like a super-basic query with unsolicited article).
Like Colleen,
Outside of my personal contacts, I received my first position (tech) here at freelance writing gigs. I’ve been with them for about three months and am now writing for other blogs on their website. Thanks to the position I was able to use it as a referral for my most recent tech position. They weren’t even hiring but I really like the website, read their feed daily so I went for it using the tech position I currently had as a referral. They hired me this past weekend.
I’m a business owner, working at home. At the end of last year, I started freelance writing. It made sense I’ve been writing for years I just never got paid to do it.
In the corporate world, I worked in technology so it’s nice that I can continue writing about technology, more specifically Apple something I’m fairly knowledgeable about with freelance writing.
Thanks for providing this list I would not have gotten the first job without it and most likely the second since I used my first as a referral.
Thanks again for providing this valuable service. It is appreciated.
