Thank You for a Wonderful Month

Freelance Writing Jobs’ third anniversary celebration has been such a success! Our talented guest bloggers were interesting and enlightening and your comments were thought provoking and informative. The good news is there are still many guest posts waiting in the wings, so we’re going to extend guest blogging month into June. If you’d still like to contribute, feel free to do so. Thank you for such a great response.

And how about some great news?

  • May has been FWJ’s highest trafficked month ever. I hope we can keep this momentum going.
  • FWJ will bring in a profit in May. The first time in a long time.
  • We’re moving forward with a new design. One we think will appeal to everyone. Expect a big reveal very soon.

What’s in store for the future?

If we continue to grow and turn a profit, what I hope to do is turn FWJ into a small network featuring regular bloggers with their own particular niche columns, similar to what Wendy is doing at SparkPlugging – except this network will only be about freelance writing.

So thank you for a wonderful month and thank you for three fantastic years. If it wasn’t for you, there wouldn’t be a me. I’m grateful more than you know.

Now that I told you of my plans, tell us what you think. Do you like the idea of making FWJ a larger place for freelance writers to learn and network? What sort of tools and columns would you like to see?

I certainly appreciated the opportunity to guest post. And I enjoyed reading many of your guest bloggers. It was a good idea and a good community.

I think expanding is a great idea! Too often, I think, many of the blogs and websites devoted to freelance writing are offering up the same information. There are thousands of writing genres and arenas, and specific advice and issues for all.

I’m also really glad you’re extending guest blogging. I’ve really enjoyed the new perspectives.

    Thanks for everything, Deb!

    Deb,

I’m glad you had a good month. I certainly enjoyed reading so many different articles, all related to freelance writing. And, you didn’t sacrifice the daily job postings in doing it. Thank you – I hope you continue to do well.

I also learned a little about the business you’re in, or at least I think I did. I’m an experienced writer and editor but I know little about the business of blogging. Do you actually get some income when someone clicks on one of your leads? I generally click on at least one or two every day because I’ve set a goal of answering at least one ad every day and your site is the best.

Anyway, thanks so much for all you and Jodee do here!

    Best–
    Hazel

    Hi Hazel,

I don’t get any money for posting jobs at all. Clicking on the links benefits you more than it does me.

Any income generated here comes from advertising – mostly Adsense. Every few months I get a donation as well and that helps too. Though I think I’m taking the donation button down.

Usually the advertising revenue goes to pay Jodee’s salary and/or to design -and this is the first month since hiring Jodee that I have made a profit.

    Thank you for coming!

    Deb

    Deb,

It’s been a great month and some of the posts were very helpful to me. All of them were enjoyable to read.

Thanks for the opportunity to guest blog.

Expanding would be great – it would give me more to read when I’m avoiding doing actual work :)

  6. Hazel says:

Thanks for the info — I’ll make a point of clicking on your ads, then!

  7. Grace says:

    Hi Hazel,
You are allowed to click on the ads only if they genuinely interest you.

This is not to hurt you or anything like that, but Google may think Deb here is encouraging her friends/community to click the ads, which is not allowed as per their existing policy.

Deb, glad to know you have had a great month. I wish this is the start of a profitable cycle for you.

    Good Luck

  8. Tina says:

I’d be extremely interested in blogging about health, gardening, or gaming. If you decide to network I’d love to get to be a part of this, keep us all informed Deb!!

  9. Lori says:

    Congratulations!

All the variety of voices and topics with the guest blogging has been great this month. I’m glad to hear there is more to come.

The idea of niche columns sounds great. I’d love to see a column on wellness. This is my niche, but I also have great interest in learning from others. Since I’m new to freelancing I’m so interested in how those who freelance stay in balance with their physical and mental health.

I’d also love more information on how to formulate emails and query letters when trying to get a client. Obviously people won’t want to give away all their tricks :) but I’d love some advice on what works for those who are successful.

  10. Fiona says:

I’ve really enjoyed reading the guest blogs. It’s introduced me to a whole bunch of blogs I wouldn’t have otherwise known about and I’ve picked up some fabulous advice in the process.

  11. John P. Barker says:

Though I’ve not had much luck in finding work through this site (yet), I can’t help but appreciate the opportunities you bring. This is a great site.

Thanks for all of your hard work and good luck on the upgrade!

  12. Deb says:

@Hazel Grace is right. No one has to click and anything looking like I’m encourating you to do so can result in the revocation of my account.

@Tina – Regarding niches. Any columns here would be on the topic of freelance writing.

  13. Jodee says:

Great news about the stats and the profit, Deb!

I have enjoyed reading all of the guest posts, too.

  14. Sue says:

I like the idea of adding regular columns to the board.

  15. Morgan says:

Wow! It seems like your blog has been around longer than three years.

FWJ is a great blog with lots of good information and it is wonderful that you were able to turn a profit as well. I look forward to reading more.

  16. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to be guest bloggers! I loved being able to contribute to the community.
I think a network would be awesome! It would just be an expansion of the existing community.
Congratulations on all the exciting developments!

  17. Congratulations on turning a profit Deb. Your perseverance is evidence of what it takes to make money online.

I hope those who are wondering what the “secret” is to making money online and/or as a freelance writer, blogger, etc., pick up on and appreciate that fact.

I enjoyed the opportunity to guest post here and wish you much success as you expand.

    Sincerely,
    Yuwanda

  18. Louise says:

I think this blog should expand, but only if it is going to offer information that is not already presented in the thousands of blogs, websites, books and forums already devoted to writing. And since this blog cannot afford to pay for writers as some sites do, it will be just more work for you with no guarantee of a profit. Bur it is ultimately your choice.

  19. Anali says:

I like the idea of your expanding to include more writers. I’ve really enjoyed reading all the guest bloggers posts.

  20. Deb says:

@Louise – When I do expand it will be because I can afford to pay my writers. I don’t expect columnists to work for free.

  21. Isolde says:

    Hey FWJ!

I love this site and have found not only a ton of great information but also a huge amount of support as I work to transfer out of the corporate sector to freelance writing. How can I send in an article to be a guest blogger? I would love to contribute and give a little back to a site that has given me so much!

    Thanks,

    Isolde

  22. Jenny B says:

I’ve enjoyed the variety in the guest posts offered and your posts too Deb. It would be wonderful to see your site expand. Thank you for the opportunity to send in a guest post.

I appreciate all the work that you and Jodee both do to for this site.

I do not know very much about ghost writing, copy writing, or SEO writing. Perhaps someone might guest post on these topics. I also would love to see posts on many genres of writing.

  23. Jodee says:

@ Isolde: You can send your article to Deb at deborahng@gmail.com.

  24. Dana says:

Congrats on the great month. And I want to say thanks — I’ve gotten two blogging jobs posted on your site, including a foodie one that I’m super excited about! :)

  25. Mara says:

Congratulations on a profit-earning (and a great) month! I love your site and find it a wonderful resource — both for jobs and also for industry inside tips. Apropos to donations, I’ve looked on your site and I can’t find the link to paypal. I actually emailed you about it a few days ago and didn’t hear back (maybe it got spammed out). I’d love to make a paypal donation as I promised myself I would once I made my first $1000 from gigs I got through your site :)
