You are to be commended for trying to expand; but Canadian and Indian gigs are mostly limited to locals. Your core audience made this site successful and you would appear to be forsaking them by concentrating on areas unavailable to them.
Also, it might behoove you to pay attention to the comments about the difficulty reading the light type on an even lighter background.

This new format is very difficult to read–what about switching the colors? I.e., black for the job descriptor and orange for the location?

@ Sara: Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I would respond as follows: I haven’t abandoned FWJ’s core audience at all. I still look for and post opportunities for US residents. FWJ has readers (that I know of) who hail from Canada, Australia, the UK, South Africa, India, and Turkey. In an effort to give our readers what they want, I have taken it upon myself to add these locations to my everyday job search efforts. Our goal here is to be responsive to the needs of readers, no matter where they happen to be.
As far as the design issues are concerned, I have commented a couple of times on this and will do so again. Deb and the designers are aware of the issue with the orange type and I understand that they will be making some changes shortly. Your allegation that I do not pay attention to comments is both inaccurate and hurtful.

I am one of the Canadians that daily view this site. If I were to see 10-20 Canadian leads and 1-2 leads for American writers I would think that Jodee would be abandonning the American Market Job leads however this is not the case. It appears to me that Jodee is still searching for job leads for American writers but adding to those leads ones that she finds for Canadians, U.K., India, Turkey, South Africa, etc.
I have applied to both American and Canadian Job leads and I have had acceptances for both. So one does not always have to be local to apply for some of the jobs.

Changing anything in life means trail and error to see what works and what doesn’t. FWJ took a shoot with the orange, it didn’t work, but it isn’t the end of the world. Nor is it that earth-shattering a problem to make this much of a fuss over.
In spite of the problems, I’d rather see them take a chance and fail, then stagnate. Keep up the good fight, Jodee and Deb.

Wow! Great list Jodee. I don’t happen to think you’ve abandoned the core readership at all as there are several for which I’d like to apply this morning. You rock!
@ Sara - I don’t mean to be rude, but since you started the morning in such a light, perhaps you should read the board a little more closely. They ARE working on the hard to read colors. And it isn’t anything that Jodee can fix. She’s running the board, not the design. That still rests with Deb, although I imagine Jodee has a good deal of input. Even still, that was a very unproductive comment to the board as a whole when it’s been addressed many times over.
Here’s a thought, and it’s really just my two cents: If you have a problem with the job lists, you can always seek them out yourself. Deb and Jodee do us a great service by cutting our search time down so we can focus on our writing. However, it’s not something they have to provide to us. This site is still helpful and informative without them. Remember that the next time you want to get snarky with Jodee for her choice of leads.

Hey FWG! I view this site daily and love the effort you put into your gig searches. I however have to be honest about the new color theme.It seems so unpersonal, dark and sad now. The bright pink brightened up my morning every day. It was cheery and hopeful. I know you wanted opinions so that is mine. I still love what you do!

You’re doing a great job, Jodee. There are some people whom you cannot make happy, no matter what. I don’t think they really want to be happy, because what would they complain about? Try not to take it personally. If not you, they would probably just take it out on some poor fast food worker or retail clerk. Anyway, my point is, I think you are doing a fantastic job, I appreciate it, and I hope you don’t let a few obnoxious people get you down.

Another Canadian here–Jodee, you’re doing a fab job. There are lots of other Canadian gigs to be found on local sites and publications, and this is a mere fraction of them. Thanks for creating a “global marketplace” for writers!

I visit the site every day but have never posted here.
I just wanted to throw in that I’m a Canadian full-time freelance writer who really appreciates that you include Canadian gigs in your lists.

Great list today Jodee. All the job boards had been a bit quiet for a few days and I wasn’t seeing much of any interest on Craigslist but things are picking up again.

Oh I missed this site in the last three days. Being sick in bed with a bad case of Strep Throat will ruin your week, I’m so behind! I wanted to ‘Thank You!’ for a lead that was listed sometime last week regarding Online College Student Blogging. I was award the job! I have to post 4 times a month about anything to do with online learning, earning college degree’s online, study tips, etc. I hope it goes well, cross your fingers. Thanks a bunch!

Ever since I let Jodee know my location, ie Turkey, I have come to realize that she not only posts jobs that are in Turkey but those who are available to Turkish people all around the world. I remember one particular job posting which was located in Canada but the employer was looking for a Turkish employee. She is *that* into her audience and thoughtful. Then again, more than half of her daily lists are US based. I’m afraid claiming she’s neglecting her audience, core or otherwise, is a bit harsh.

As a Californian, I think Jodee is doing a spectacular job. Maria said it all:
“Nor is it that earth-shattering a problem to make this much of a fuss over.”
This site is a jumping off place to develop job leads, generate job ideas, get job epiphanies. To expect anything more is akin to demanding to be hand fed.
I had a neat job offer from a lead on this site, but sadly the pay was way too low. But I made lemonade: I realized that if that particular company head wanted a blog — then his competitors would too! I got busy and started talking to his competitors and from that action everything blossomed.
Jodee’s gig pick from Colorado was just the inspiration I needed to get a load of new job ideas.
And not just lemonade either, but I made a friend too! One of the gal’s on here is an experienced, well paid blogger and she and I struck up an email conversation where she taught me so much about the world of blogging. (Hi Amy!)

I like the new look. I’ve seen much worse color combinations or simply designed poorly. Maybe it’s the steaming hot cup of coffee I like! Anyway Jodee I think you are doing a great job. I have found that people will complain about any and every thing and you can’t please everyone. So why bother?
Deb and Jodee are providing this service for free. There are many other sites that charge for what these ladies do freely. It’s enough to make you not want to do it or to moderate the comments.

Thank you so much for posting so many wonderful leads. I love that you post leads in many different genres and for people in many places. Even though that means that some days there are no leads that fit my experience and wants, it also means on other days there is a high percentage of matches on the list.
It also means that others like me who are looking for work have just as great a chance of finding it here as I do. I would never begrudge another an opportunity to find work.
Thank you so much for putting in so much time and effort into providing leads for your ever-growing base of readers - who represent a wide variety of skills, experience, writing niches, and locations.
You and Deb are amazing and I just appreciate you both more than words can say. Without you, your hard work, and this site, this disabled single mom (ME) would not be able to pay the bills each month. This site is the largest source of my work leads, and the top source of the work I have obtained, to date.

Just to let anyone who is interested know…I am pretty sure the Private Investigator Report Editor is a scam. It is the only CL ad I send anything to today and I received a scam mail with a link to http://secretofonlinesuccess.com/ . Bogus junk.
It is possible this is a response to a job from earlier in the week, but it came in so soon after applying to that one I mentionecd, it seemed odd. The email comes from a Hotmail address- Kielan.Yarrow@hotmail.com

You guys make this all worthwhile and no matter what I do, not everyone is going to be a fan. More than likely, there will always be more ads from the US than anywhere else, simply because that is a bigger market, but that doesn’t mean that the readers who happen to live somewhere else are any less important to us.
I really like going on my Internet treasure hunt for leads on weekdays to see what I can find and sharing it with all of you. If nothing else, it shows that there *are* opportunities out there for writers.
The occasional nastygram isn’t going to frighten me away or make me change the way I do things.

Jodee–I hope that you are able to ignore the snotty, ignorant comments and not let them get to you. If people have such problems with the site, maybe they shouldn’t use it and search for all the leads on their own, the way you do everyday. Anyway, the site rocks! Thanks for all the hard work!!
