A Little Weekend Link Love June 21, 2008

Good morning. I have a couple of announcements this morning before dropping the links and starting my Saturday. The first is that my Patriot Media email account is no longer in existence. If you sent mail there in the past few weeks and didn’t receive a response it’s because it’s not forwarding as it should. Feel free to resend to freelancewritinggigs(at)gmail(com).
Also, there will be big, and I mean big changes here in the next few days.I’m hoping they won’t break the blog, but I wanted issue a head’s up just in case. (Oooh what can it be???)
Finally, when it came to choosing the Top 13 for FWJ Idol, you should know it wasn’t an easy decision. Votes were a big factor, but we also gave points for years in the business, personality, experience (including life experience) and ability to follow directions. If someone didn’t make the cut, it’s not because we didn’t like them, it’s because we felt they weren’t a good fit. We’re not "discriminating" or "handpicking" and such accusations disappoint us and put a damper on what is supposed to be a fun way to choose a blogger for this community. And that’s what it really comes down to – hiring the person we feel best fits in with the FWJ community. We may be doing this again in a few months and I’m hoping it will be a positive experience for all of us.
Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday and don’t spend all of this glorious weekend working.

Hi, Deb,
As one of the contestants who did not make it to Round 2, I just wanted to say that I enjoyed the challenge of participating and plan to keep up with the assignments by writing my entries on my own blog. If you have any objections to this, please let me know, and I will gladly change my plans. No matter what happens, I am really looking forward to seeing how the contest plays out.
Hi Deb and Jodee
I can’t wait to see how the FWJ Idol contest plays out. This is such a unique idea for choosing a new blogger. With that in mind I also hope the person making those alligations against you isn’t a contestant. First and foremost this is a job interview and most businesses handpick their worokers. Not to mention by burning bridges they ensured they’ll never work for you nor receive a recommendation from the blogger who runs the number one freelance writing blog.
I also would like to commend Jodee for filling your shoes nicely. I see no blisters just a perfect fit.
Penny Wilkonson
@ Penny: Thank you for your most generous comment. I really appreciate it.
Thank you for the links. Much appreciated.
hey Deb
well I’m trying to get a early jump
you enjoy the rest of your weekend I know I am this is how I have fun alright
Hi Amel – What a great idea! I’ll subscribe to your blog so I can see your entries as well.
@Penny – Yes, this is a job interview more than a popularity contest. And Jodee is doing a great job, isn’t she? I expect it’ll be only be a matter of time before I post something and someone says, “who is this Deb and why is she posting on Jodee’s blog.”
@John – You’re most welcome. PoeWar has been my daily stop for years.
@Kenneth – The early bird catches the worm. Have a great weekend yourself!
@ Deb: LOL!
Hi Deb,
Thanks for the link love. It’s always satisfying whenever you link to one of my posts.

Hi Deb,
Can’t wait to see the big changes! You mentioned you might have another contest in a few months–is there any chance you might consider newbies? I know the chances of winning over the more experienced folks wouldn’t be great, but it would be a great opportunity for those of us just getting started to participate in this.
Thanks to you and Jodee for keeping this site going! I would miss this community if it went away.
LoL!! so how you doing Deb well you said a mouth full if you need entertainment news you can count on me…
