Thanks for the professional, in-depth list. I especially liked your links to books that might help someone struggling with branding issues.

Ah, project management and paper work. You can’t ever escape them, and I spent so many years dreaming of never seeing another paper that needed to be filed. Little did I know. : )

Good post! #4 is great. It’s important that people know you’re a writer and explaining what you write is really important. People automatically assume books or maybe magazine articles, but the avg. person doesn’t think of technical or corporate writing.

@#4 — Yes, you’re right — it is somewhat long. I would have preferred to break it up into two postings, but the parameters were a Top 10 and so I wanted to stick to that while doing justice to each item.

@#7 — I too am having a great time. I liked this challenge because it made me really sit down and take stock of how freelance writing is a profession that demands that you overcome obstacles and learn new skills if you’re going to successful.

This is good information, but the post seemed really LONG to me. I would have preferred if you edited some of this away (but I do realize how incredibly hard it is to do that). Nice work!

@Phil — Yes, far more professional writers need to realize they are business people first — ones who just happen to use writing as their medium to make a living.

@Kristy — Thanks for the heads up about the Caps. I am still getting the hang of how the formatting shows up (like italics don’t, use subheads, etc.) – so the feedback is appreciated.

@Cindy – Yes multitasking and prioritization of workload are essential skills writers need to hone in order to be successful.
