Totally off topic…You’ve mentioned the high cost of propane several times in this forum…suggestion: Is there any way you can lock in your cost for the next year? You may want to do so now, prices are bound to go way up.

Re: Today.com – I actually emailed their support to find out if they’ll reassign blogs or what. After rereading the terms of the agreement, it says that they can cancel the writer’s agreement at any time, but leaves out how writers can get out. They’ve not responded to me at all.

It does say that writers can post as often or as little as they want, so I figure if I never post again that’s as little as I want, but it does make me wish I’d paid much closer attention to the fact that their terms do not give writers a way out.

Maryam – yep and I thought about it and decided I’d rather just have my own food blog that may or may not make money but any money it makes from ads is mine, as opposed to writing for someone else for $1 and maybe get a cut of the profits if I’m lucky. So I’m creating my own food blog this weekend. I know there are lots out there but I enjoy the writing so….

I want to tell all the newbies here not to give up. I’d had a really bad week, starting with the Today blogging debacles, not making enough to pay my share of the bills, and just generally feeling tired of rejection. Then in the last half hour (I kid you not) I have received 3 offers of writing jobs. Good jobs too – an academic writing position (that pays well and don’t worry – it’s not a paper mill), regional editor on a new tourism start up and to write some health articles for a statewide magazine. Plus the proofs of my book are being delivered today.
Don’t give up and keep on plugging out those resumes. It’ll pay off.

Ditto to Jodee’s comment about reapplying. I was the second choice for my first two print jobs. I was at the first paper for two years, about average for reporters there, and at the second one for 11 years.

If you stumble across one looking for proofreaders (legal), I was training for that one and suddenly the person’s disappeared. I can’t remember where I found it, but it was about three weeks ago.

Basically, I’d turned in my latest practice session and was told I’d spelled Ouija wrong, which I know I hadn’t – Ouiji was not right, so I even included proof of how it really is spelled. After correcting the person, I never heard another word. So that job appears to be a dud.

There are usually dozens of jobs looking for those with legal training though, so you should easily be able to find work to cover $200 a month. Just don’t forget about self-employment taxes when you are earning the money.

Hello Everyone,

I’m new to this website, which is very cool, by the way. I’m also new to the world of freeelance writing. I just graduated from law school. Turns out there aren’t many law jobs available in my area, particularly for a mom who wants time with her toddler (me). I love writing/blogging and thought maybe I could drum up enough money to cover a $200 monthly loan payment through freelance. Any advice? Does this sound doable for a rookie freelancer?

hey guys i wanted to ask everyone : I just got offered to write for bright hub, as well as webooks and was wondering if people ever worked for them, with bright hub it seems like a good well thought community and so does web books, but i dunno…
I am still waiting to hear from three blogs fingers crossed! If all goes well my income will increase more and i can stop doing some of the tedious jobs for income

@ Hazel: I keep thinking that I need to say something like, “I’d like to thank the Academy….” It’s starting to sink in now, and I’ve got ideas for postings starting to come now (Thank Goodness – this is no time to get writer’s block, LOL!).

@ Deb: I do enjoy my early morning treasure hunt and I want this blog to be the first place freelancers want to visit for quality leads and great 411 about all things to do with freelancing. Add to that the fact that I’m just a bit of a control freak, and the decision to keep doing this job was a very easy one.

@ Fiona: Just like in the brick and mortar world, sometimes the person who got hired may not be a good fit. If you are still interested in this opportunity, then go ahead and reapply.
