I Told You Changes Were Coming!

So? What do you think of our new design? Do you love it? I still have to play around with the ads – but I think it looks terrific. I wanted to get away from the whole “mommy blogging” thing while still having a cozy, coffee-shop type feel.

The credit for the design goes to Harrison from Men with Pens and Nick Cernis from Put Things Off. They get my stamp of approval and recommendation for anyone looking for designer. Both Harry and James get bonus points for putting up with my truly dumb questions. It’s no fun being technically challenged!

love the colors and that coffee cup is delightful…realistic enough to make me want one in my hand…off to refill the coffee cup

  2. Shawn Norris says:

Wow, when you say changes, you really mean changes.

I love the redesign. Very clean and cozy.

  3. Amy says:

I love it. And Deb, Harry (I call him Harold even though that’s not his name) put up
with ME, the queen of the tech-challenged, so I’m sure you were a piece of cake!!

  4. Nikki says:

I LOVE THE NEW LOOK! But I already said that in my comments on another post! But I am more than happy to say it again… I LOVE THE NEW LOOK!

  5. Love it, love it, love it! Good form, Deb! The new look rocks.

Way to go Nick and Harry.

  6. Chrissy says:

The new site looks great – very functional as well. It will make me love coming to this site every day even more :)

  7. Jenny B says:

Great new look that appeals to everyone. Excellent work Deb, Harry,James and Nick.

  8. Deb, I can tell what it’s supposed to look like and the concept is greast, but it’s not displaying properly on my computer (I’m using IE 6.0, yes I know I should upgrade). The title has two layers on top of each other. One says “fresh news theme.” I can send you a screenshot if you need.

  9. Linette says:

I love the new look, very professional;)

  10. Alison Ashley Formento says:

I love the new look and clean style—but the orange print is really hard to read.
Thanks always for your excellent site!

  11. Rhonda says:

Sharp look! Of course, I like the coffee mug :)

I agree that the orange print is a little difficult to read.

  12. Dee says:

I love it! I thought I had made a wrong turn when I stopped by earlier.

  13. Kyle says:

Cleaner! But I miss the lady at her desk.

  14. Courtney says:

It looks great! It still throws me for a loop when I try to type in “freelancewritingjobs.com” and you’re not there. But the blog design is lovely.

  15. Murry says:

I like it. Very good job.

  16. Angela says:

Nice look, though I’m also having the double layer effect. I’d just put a note to let people know they should upgrade to view properly. Otherwise fabulous!

  17. Em says:

I really like the new design! Looks very professional. On the old version, I liked seeing how many people had come to the website that day.

  18. Lisa says:

Oh! I love it!! However, I thought I’d gone to the wrong website! I type it in so fast now since I check it 567 times a day. When it popped up, I thought, “Gee, I’ve got the wrong place!” :) It looks so great, so clean and still warm and welcoming!

  19. Kimberly says:

    OOOOh! I love it! :)

  20. Katherine says:

I love the new template! I tried to install a blog template with the square ad spots but couldn’t figure out how to put the ads in! But yours looks very sharp and professional.

  21. Kristy says:

Wow, change abounds here! I like the new format – especially the colors and the coffeehouse feel. The only thing I don’t care for is that I can’t see the author of the post from the home page…gotta actually click on the post to see it. I’m a weirdo like that, though, so it’s probably just me. :)

  22. Connie says:

I love it !It’s beautiful – what a wonderful job. Shocking at first lol, because I was not expecting the change, but…wow! Very, very nice.

  23. becky says:

Love it! Would like to be able to get to the next post from here, rather than going back to the main, but otherwise it’s great.

But what’s wrong with the mommyblogging thing? :D

(I kid – I’m a mommyblogger on my personal site, so that’s why I want to give Deb a hard time.)

  24. Ad says:

Wow. I think this is one of the best re-designs I’ve ever seen. Great colors, easy flow. This site gets better and better.

    Well done to all!

  25. Robin says:

MMMMM. Coffee. I just set up my pot for the morning. Now I want some right now.

    Looks good, Deb.

  26. The IE6 quirk is fixed… down with that browser :(

The feedback is good, people – keep the comments coming!

  27. Hey. How come BOB gets a gravatar? Where’s mine? *grumbles* Damned thing never works half the time…

  28. Hm. Probably because I’m using the wrong website and login… sheesh. Bet you it works now.

  29. Trisha says:

I definitely like it. I think it’s a lot better, sleeker and so on. Looks more professional, not to say that your old one was terrible anything.

  30. Louise says:

I also have IE and on this page I see (along with the title), “Fresh News Theme, Another Premium News WordPress Theme” And I am obviously in the minority because I really don’t like this dark new look. More importantly the job leads are not in black or in bold as they were in the old template. I can’t read them easily. But since this is the new look I guess I will stop coming to this blog. I wish you continued success, Deb.

  31. Heather says:

A wonderful site just got even better! Easy on the eyes and simple to navigate. Thanks for having such a great place for writers!

  32. Deb, it was a pleasure working with you and we wish you much success in the future.

    @Amy: Pandora! Where you been?

  33. Janene says:

    I LOVE it :)

  34. Anali says:

I love the new look! Great job!

  35. Mariella says:

Wow Wow Wow…What a surprise! It’s great Deb, very crisp. Will take a while to get used to though, but I like it. &hearts

  36. Josh says:

One of the nicest themes I’ve seen for a while!

  37. I love it! I had to do a double take at my URL to make sure this was the same site! Very professional looking. It was definitely time for a change!

  38. I love the new look Deb but I’d also love to be able to see who the author of each post is from the main page. Any way to add that near the date just under the post titles?

I love the coffee colors. I agree with the others in regards to the orange. Perhaps a richer orange/brown would work better?

  39. I love it. Very professional and has that ‘clean’ feeling that all good blogs should.

  40. Hi Deb,

    Love the new look.
    Very professional and user-friendly too!

  41. I love it!

It definitely has a draw-up-a-chair-and-have-a-cup-of-coffee feel.

I visit your site most days just to see what freelance writing jobs are going. Keep up the good work, and thanks!

  42. Lucy says:

    Gorgeous – love the colours

  43. Sandy says:

Love the new design! Professional but accessible and comfortable . . . just like working at home!

  44. Once I realized I really was in the right place, I love the new look and style. Looks very professional and up to date!

  45. Candidate #5 says:

Love, love, love it! I too did a double take when I first stopped by here. Very professional looking. I’m not having any problem viewing the orange text though.

  46. Lori says:

The new look is great! It is so welcoming and pleasing to the eye. I was so surprised when I checked it out this morning. Great job!!

  47. Julie F says:

I love it, it reminds me of my own with the browns and a coffee cup! It took me a second to realize I hadn’t clicked the wrong link in my favorites.

  48. del says:

I love it! It looks so inviting & comfortable, but very professional at the same time. Great job!

  49. Nick Cernis says:

Congratulations on the relaunch (and thanks for the link)!

You clearly have a very healthy community here, which often counts far more over fancy coffee cups. :)

Best of luck for the future!

  50. Deb, I’m also getting a view where the title has multiple layers on top of each other. One says “fresh news theme,” the second says “Another Premium News WordPress Theme,” and the third says “Writing for a Living.”
