Good morning FWJ Friends! It’s the start of a new week and I’ve got job leads for bloggers, translators, and editors today. There are opps for technical writers, content writers, and ghost writers. One ad is from a client who wants a screenplay written.
I know we are always conscious of the fact that we should proofread our work and the same thing is true for clients who are placing ads. Here is an excerpt from an ad looking to hire writers for a magazine: “Do not send quarries to this e-mail address.” What impression does that give the reader about this company?
When you are applying for jobs, take the extra time to check your spelling and proofread your application carefully. It may make the difference between getting hired or getting passed over. I hope you find something on today’s list that looks as if it has your name written all over it.

These are some potential opportunities that I will definitely have to look further into. Right now I’m using a couple of online publishers. Helium, which has an interesting marketplace for niche writers to get paid a few dollars upfront (if they accept your article) and Triond, which doesn’t pay upfront, but rather overtime based upon pageviews (which ensures guaranteed payment once you reach a minimum of 50 cents). Thanks for your suggestions.

Thank you for the list once again:) and so true about the spelling situations.

You’re welcome!
@ Shells: That ad looked good until I got to the spelling error. I made an editorial decision and decided not to include it. Anyone who is recruiting for a magazine should know how to spell the word “query” properly and if they don’t, then that’s a red flag.

Here’s another one (under the article writers wanted)
writtingarticles@gmail.com
How often have we seen that one?

I suppose I will never understand how on Earth people expect to be taken seriously with such obvious mistakes. If (as an example) writingarticles was taken, could these posters not be more creative? Or, perhaps, simplify it by using a company e-mail address. Sigh. Unfortunately, these sorts of things are all too common, I find, when searching for freelance positions.

Wow, that ad for writtingarticles@gmail had a few grammatical errors in it, too. Makes me wonder about the quality of articles they are looking for.

Question to anyone - I don’t have a huge back ground in freelancing jobs. I currently have only one; a blog for online schools. I’ve read some tips/instructions on a cover letter on applying for a freelance job on the internet.
My question is this, how do I make an impression on a company with not a whole lot of experience but is very interested?
Thanks! Nic

Hahaha, I like the “edgy, funny, controversial” writer needed for real estate, mortgage and SEO writing…

Seems spelling mistakes are the plat du jour, as the travel ghostwriter advert also had some mistakes!

I have an interview next week for one of the websites you posted today, so thanks for the lead!

Colleen: I believe the quality of articles they are looking for is “free” articles, since they want you to send a few samples their way.

i don’t understand why so many people want free articles. do they know how much work and time goes into writing, polishing and getting it right only for them to expect you to let them publish your work for free. it’s so unfair!
