RE: Wyldmuse

The "Blog Writers Wanted $20" is just a scam to get more people to sign up for the site. I answered a similar add a few weeks ago and got the exact same reply. After I signed up for one of the sites, I later received this email.

"If you are receiving this email it is because we have reason to believe that you have been a victim of fraud. One of our advertisers is tricking people into responding to our ads with the promise of a job opportunity.

Do you remember signing up to receive information at www.debtclear.com? Did you do this because you were interested in learning more about our debt relief or credit repair programs?

If not, please reply to this email with REMOVE in the subject line. If so, one of my sales agents should be contacting you shortly.

Thank you for your help in this matter."

Kind regards,

Too bad mahalo.com is overwhelmed with responses. But, they did say they are keeping me on file for the next openings. It looks like a very promising site with excellent pay. Wonder if openings come up quickly.
Does anyone know if PageWise still takes on freelancers? They were a really quick way to make money with little effort - I really learned the ins and outs of keyword articles. I know that what I did originally publish with them is now on essortment.com.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site.

I am a copy editor with more than 10 years' experience, looking for freelance editing jobs.

I saw the post above with links to job suggestions; are there any other places on this site that list other job possibilities? I'm very happy in my full-time job, but I'm looking to do some side work.

I'd appreciate any help!

Thanx,
Jamie

The email I received back from the 'Blog Writers Wanted $20 per' stated that to be in the running for the gig, I had to register on three debt relief websites in order to review them, and even listed how much 'debt' I should enter during the registration, so I wouldn't be directed to the wrong registration platform. This sent up a red flag to me; I admit the pay was listed high, but thought perhaps this was a site that wanted to build up its content fast. If anyone pursues this, I would advise caution.

@Carly:

Okay! I think I will let it set with the links but I begin to worry I will email them samples. Mahalo looks like a great site, and your comment is a added bonus, hopefully I will hear something soon. I'm still a bit green in the gills with Freelancing so maybe this can be another opportunity for me and if not I will try again somewhere else. :-)

Re: College Degrees.

I think it depends. I saw an area job ad here for, of all things, a taxi dispatcher and it stated that applicants without a college degree would be turned away. I'm still trying to understand how NOT having a college degree make you unqualified to dispatch taxi cabs.

Nicole, I am a writer for Mahalo (they're great, by the way!). If you forgot to send a sample but there are links to samples on your resume, I'd say that's fine. If you're still worried about it, try just sending a quick follow-up email with samples attached. They're very friendly over there.

Morning Jodee:

Great work as always. I applied to 'Freelance How To Writers @ Mahalo.com'. Question, I sent a cover letter and my resume and forgot to include a sample, even though my work is linked on my resume. Will that be a problem? Or should I resubmit my resume? Please help!

Thanks!

I'm not sure that unpaid/noncredit internships are necessarily bad. Not long ago, I read an article about the declining value of a college degree; its gist was that "book learning" is fine, but, these days, *everybody* has a degree. Employers are often seeking applicants who have done something more than attend class for four years.

Sure, getting money and credits is great, but you can earn money sweeping floors, and earning credits does nothing to separate you from the pack. After graduation, other applicants may be full of theory, but you will have had real-world experience.
