There is a discussion going on about Mahalo at the WAHM’s Who Write forum at wahm.com. A few who have done some work there say that it was $10 a guide and you could move up to $15 a guide. But the ad here says it is $10 an our for four hour shifts so there seems to be some confusion if they are changing things or if this is a different type of job. What did sound good is one individual said they pay well for their How to guides, from $50 – $250 I think she said depending on the length.

The site looks interesting and I like the diversity of the type of job it would be however if it is really only $10 an hour it seems like a lot of work to get the “right” links and follow their style guide. Seems like there would be more incentive for both parties to pay $10 per guide, but maybe I’m just not familiar enough with this type of work to make a determination on if the pay is good.

Looks like the wedding stories link isn’t good… I wrote to the anonymous CL email address listed on the ad, and I got a bounceback message saying it was an invalid email address. Oh well!

Thanks Anne and Jenny, that was a suspicion that I had – taking lowest bidder, and I also think it may be worth a try if they are truly looking for quality, not just a bunch of words and posts to fill space.

Just curious…….recently, I received two gigs however I had originally applied for these writing gigs in February. Have many of you found that it can take months to hear back from a magazine or blog ad?

Also, one of my regular writing gigs was found at this site and that was a year and a half ago.

@ Eleanor, I’m in agreement with Anne, it is hard when one is asked to give rates but it still could be worth a try. I think that if you were to direct them to your blogs, webs and writing it should provide them with your writing style. Just make certain you let them know how dogs and natural care are “up your alley.” All the best!

@Eleanor – when they ask you to give rates, I find it’s much harder to land the job without working for crumbs. Basically, they’re looking for the lowest bid. This is not necessarily true of everyone, but I’ve had potential employers then come back and tell me that they had a lower bid and if I wanted to top it, they’d be interested in hearing back from me. I had one yesterday actually, their “lowest bidder” quoted them a penny a word and they wanted to know if I’d work for less.
