Improving Number One – Can it Be Done?

by Candidate #10

The FWJ blog is a great one. It offers plenty of job leads, advice, and industry information from print to web. It’s the Number One resource for writers on the web.

Good stuff.

Any blogger who comes here has to help maintain that Number One position and believe in it – and any blogger working for FWJ has to work on keeping Number One the best.

But even more so, any blogger working for FWJ (or any leading blog for that matter) has to remember that no one is perfect and that there’s always room for improvement. Complacency breeds failure – change breeds success.

And that mindset is what I offer.

Advice that Counts

My blogging experience and my knowledge of online freelance writing allows me to provide your audience with down-to-earth, straightforward advice. I can help your community learn tricks and tips that give them a better chance of reaching success, no matter what type of writing they prefer.

I can do this because I’ve been there, done that. I’m not picking up my post topics from around the ‘net to repeat what someone else has said without knowing whether it works or not. My posts involve tried-and-true tips based on research and my experience.

Things that Make you Go Hmmm

It’s important for people to spend time thinking about what they’re doing and how they’re doing it. Today’s fast pace makes that wake-up call difficult to achieve – and I can help. My style is tell-it-like-it-is, and I do just that.

I offer creative thoughts, outside-the-box ideas, and realistic views of both the good and the bad. I can rant or I can rave, and I can invoke emotion in readers easily. I try to help people think harder and smarter so they don’t just follow the herd mentality.

That’s good for the FWJ community, because a crowd that feels is a crowd that can make a huge difference.

An Open Mind

Seeing the other side of the coin is important. No one way of writing is the right way, and everyone has different ways of achieving their goals. My strength is in recognizing that no niche of writing is better than another, and we can all learn from each other’s favorite types of writing.

I try to find a variety of strategies that work across the board. The FWJ readers are a varied bunch and they range from home worker to print writer to web content creator. It’s important to discuss matters that count for everyone and have a wide vision regarding topics that can help.

I blog with an open mind and a willingness to help people learn from each other, not only from me. Everyone has unique experiences that we can all benefit from, and I know how to take those experiences to bring them to a community.

Getting Down and Dirty

I enjoy being part of the community. A blog that has people who aren’t afraid to step down off the stage to mingle with the crowd is a blog that succeeds. It’s no fun for anyone to be talked to – I prefer to talk with instead.

The FWJ community could use someone like that. The current staff has only recently begun to involve themselves deeply in the commentator section, and already the conversation shows a remarkable difference in tone and discussions.

I can help improve that and create a true gathering of people who discuss together – not diss each other.

Little Things that Make a Big Difference

What can I do for you as a blog owner? This blog is your blog, first and foremost, and I offer you respect. I welcome feedback and embrace it, because my goal is to achieve your goals – and go the extra mile, too.

I’m reliable and dependable, which means that you can rest easy knowing that if I commit to something, I’ll follow through. I have initiative and confidence, and that’s good for you, too: no handholding, no fear, and no need to supervise and look over my shoulder.

Does this all sound overconfident? Maybe. But when writing to an audience of 2,000 people, confidence and the ability to stand up and say what you’re good at makes all the difference. I believe in myself; I believe in your blog.

And that’s what you need in a blogger.

Great job, #10! You convinced me!

I think you really hit the nail on the head – all of those things do matter with this blog and with this audience. I especially like the ‘advice that counts’ part. Getting advice from someone who knows what they are talking about vs stuff found on the net is really important to me. Writing is the sole source of income for my family, so I need all the tried-and-true help I can get!
