Update: Due to the overwhelming response, applications are no longer being accepted. Thank you to everyone who applied.
Small reference/academic publishing company is building a team of freelance writers to work at least 20 hours per week on an ongoing basis. Projects vary but emphasis is in field of literature, including 500-2,000-word author biographies and 10,000-word study notes for specific literary works.
Ideal candidate writes rigorously clean, clear prose in authoritative, “encyclopedic” voice; is conversant with literary terms, schools, and history; has excellent electronic research skills; can synthesize information from a variety of sources; is meticulously accurate; and meets deadlines. Graduate degree in English literature preferred.
Writers work from home and participate in a virtual office environment with editors East, West, and in France. Entries follow set formats; extensive guidelines and research strategies are provided.
Payment is on a per-piece basis @ 10-15 cents/word. An excellent opportunity for someone who desires interesting subject matter and relief from the constant hustle of piecing together a living as a self-employed writer.
Please send resumés and samples of relevant expository writing to Erin Brown: erinbrown31(at)msn.com.

Sounds like a great opportunity, and right down my alley, I applied and hope it works out.
Good luck Spence! I don’t know if I have the academic background required, but it does look like a great opportunity!
Just my thing. I’ve recently started writing for another academic / encyclopedia publisher and i love the variety.
I’m new to all this, but would anyone know, specifically, if this is legitimate or not? In other words, did you apply and is there a website?
