A Little Summer’s Almost Over Weekend Link Love

I’ve been a little remiss on the link love this summer. I like to dole it out on the weekends but the truth is, I’ve been taking weekends off to enjoy time with my family, relax with a good book or lounge poolside. Yeah I’ve been a little lazy like that. In another week life will return to normal and I’m sure to be spending more time online.
I’m happy to report we have link love this weekend, though. Here’s what I’m reading:

Getting By with a Little Help from My Friends
- I’m so happy to see my friend Easton Ellsworth at Blog Herald. In this post he sends out a list of “Would You Rather?” questions for bloggers.
- We often ask for feedback from the employers who advertise here for writers. It’s always eye opening and not necessarily positive. My friend Darren Rowse recently received feedback from an advertiser on his ProBlogger Job Board and discusses the importance of taking a blogging job application seriously.
- My friend David Peralty wants to know if you’re having trouble finding blogging (or freelance writing) work. There’s a conversation going on at Hive, a private blogging forum run by Performancing we both belong to, discussing this very thing. What do you think? Are you having problems finding blogging work lately?
- My friend Chris Garrett is featuring an informative series on email marketing. Do yourself a favor and take a look.
- My friend Liz Strauss offers enlightening tips on moving past writers block, migraines and trolls. Fortunately I don’t deal with migraines, but I know of writer block and trolls all too well.
- My friend Harry MacLeod talks to us about finding his ideal reader.
- My friend John Hewitt has an awesome series about a career in technical writing at PoeWar. Do stop by and offer your support.

Now that we’re looking to have a couple of minutes of free time on our hand, I’ll be restarting the regular “We Get Letters” Q&A’s. If you have any questions regarding freelancing, blogging, or how to make the perfect zucchini bread, send them to me at deborahng@gmail.com. Please indicate if the letter is ok to publish here and whether or not I can use your name. I may not have all the answers, but we can brainstorm together and see what we come up with.
Have a great rest of the week and a productive week!

Deb, don’t go apologising for taking the weekends off – that’s what weekends are for! But thanks for the link love anyway
Joanna
Some great sites you have here – thanks for the links. I need to schedule some time to set aside for regular link love. There’s just not enough of that going on in my life and there are so many interesting sites out there.
Summer’s over tomorrow for us. High school starts and then middle school starts Wednesday. I’m still feeling really uncomfortable with this school year. Besides having to spend what I feel is far too much money–we even have to buy some of the text books this year per a notice we received on Friday, so there’s more money down the drain–I also have the expense of gas to drive my son to and from high school every day thanks to the cancellation of bus service for high schoolers. While I’m sure I’ll fall into a comfortable routine, I’m not psyched over a half hour drive at 7:30 and then again at 2:30 because it’s going to cost at least a tank a week and take time away from work.
To offset the increased gas use now, I need to find more work, which means more hours, yet my workday’s being shortened for the transport. It’s all nagging at me and I’m looking for a job near my son’s high school since I’m going to have to drive that way anyway. Sadly, the job openings I’ve found pay $7 – $8 an hour and involve fast food, something I did as a teen and hated every minute of.
So I have the back to school blues I guess. As for zucchini bread, I learned a trick this summer. Our gas stove uses propane which costs a rocket around here, so I’ve been doing all my baking in my Crockpot. I’ve discovered that the Crockpot turns out the most moist, decadent breads and cakes!
Thank you for the mention Deb. It has been a fun series to write. Good luck to your two finalists to, this was a tough week to vote because they all had good articles.
My fav. was “Fun Stuff”, “What those picture signs Really mean at … ”
It’s good and healthy to have a few laughs when not writing/posting/gathering content, etc.
