Great, long list! I applied for several of them. I’ve heard back from a couple leads I’ve gotten on here in the last couple weeks and am waiting to hear what they thought of my samples.

I sent an e-mail and she responded pretty quickly; she thanked me for expressing interest and gave me more information on the position. I’m just mad that it’s Friday and now I have to wait until Monday to see what’s next!

Leigh,

I got the same email. They didn’t advertise the position. They let us know that the Managing Editor is no longer with the company for that specific channel.

“I have to let you all know that “….” is no longer the Managing Editor of the Medical Science channel. Unfortunately it did not work out.

In the meantime, please coordinate topic ideas with me and the team here will be copy editing and publishing articles until we find our next Managing Editor.

I’m really looking forward to this phase of the channel and hope all of you will continue to be a key part of it!

I would say if they emailed you and you meet their qualifications then go for it. You never know where it could next lead you. It’s a job lead just like any other. Don’t feel bad. Feel inspired and motivated.

I got a great medical blogging/writing gig from the FWJ list recently. I received an e-mail today stating that the Managing Editor position is now vacant, as things “didn’t work out” with the editor I was hired to work with (exact wording from the announcement that was sent out via e-mail).

I have drafted a quick e-mail to the network editor expressing my interest and included a few bullet points of information that show that I am perfect for the job (hands-on medical research experience, excellent proofreading/editing abilities, project management/coordination experience, certification in medical terminology, etc.). However, I am kind of hesitating to send the
e-mail – I feel like a vulture swooping in when they just announced the editor is being replaced. Any thoughts from FWJ commenters?

I applied for that job. I hesitated for two seconds but sent off anyways.

I have three resumes that I send off depending on what the job asks. The first one is called 1. Michelle’s Writing Resume
which just lists my titles to pieces I’ve written and the location where the piece is at. My email, my writing website, and my blog are listed. The second one is called 2. Michelle’s Writing Resume With Bio And Clips which is pretty straightforward and includes only my email, my writing website, and my blog. The third is called 3. My Writing Portfolio With Resume; again pretty straightforward and only includes my email, my writing website, and my blog.

When in doubt or if there is vague info. about the job I only send off the first resume.

The Green Living job is actually listed on at least two different CL locations — Las Vegas and Seattle. The ad doesn’t seem shady, and since it’s an Internet company, I guess I can see why they’d want to broaden their reach with multiple listings. But am I missing something? Does this seem suspicious to anyone?

The 50 cent a word ad from Atlanta Craigslist for webzine writers: does anyone else get a questionable vibe from this? They want writing samples that fit within their categories; I guess I’ve just been burned by so many scam ads on CL, I’m leery of giving them the content they want on the first contact.
