GUESS WHAT EVERYONE?? I got a job for that new Haitian magazine that was listed last week or so! Fantastic… close to my heritage and they pay well ($100-350/article, articles under 1000 words usually.) Thanks for the lead and a great blog full of these regularly-listed opportunities. I’m so happy that I found a place where I can build my resumé, submit own creative ideas, and generate good clips while catering to a niche market that I understand. (Oh, and where I can get PAID to do all that , delicious icing on the cake of freelance work).

I just want to say that I appreciate the quality of the leads on this list! It’s not just a lot of the usual $5 an article baloney that I see on a lot of other lead sheets I get. I’m a very experienced business reporter and corporate writer, and I find jobs that are likely fits for me and my substantial hourly rate, often more than one a day! I love how there’s usually something for everyone from interns and newbees to pros.

It’s great to have a one-stop place to look that pulls together everything that’s going on out there from Craig’s list to Media Bistro, sologig and the rest.

It’s funny how we always seem to come across things we need to see or hear exactly when we need to see or hear them.

I have recently made the decision to move to L.A. and pursue my screenwriting more seriously, but I had no idea how I was going to go about it. I started to panic a little and think maybe I had made the wrong decision. But, this quote reminded me that I can do it. Thanks!

Re: Circumstances

Totally agree from two perspectives. When ever something goes wrong (e.g., bad grade) my teens come up with “it’s not my fault.” YES IT IS

When I started going from just scraping by to having a successful freelance business, my mother would say: “You’re lucky.” NO I’M NOT, I WORK MY TAIL OFF. Similarly, when business falls off, it’s my fault for getting too comfortable with the business.

I’m a firm believer that people make their own circumstances, or luck. Granted, there can be unforeseen items (I have great reverence for Murphy’s Law), but it all depends how one deals with those.

That quote from George Bernard Shaw basically sums up exactly what I was trying to say in the post I wrote last week for FWJ Idol. Obviously I should have just channeled his spirit and had him write the article for me. Or is that plagiarism?!!??

I had to say thanks Jodee for posting my favorite quote in the world today. I have this one posted in a few places around my house, including right on my desk. It is definitely a motivating one for me!!
