Everyone: I am so excited! I sent a letter to Condo Monde; today I was looking for work, and they had two condominium properties they wanted to cover for this issue in my local area. They e-mailed me back within the hour and assigned me. Work that soon after contacting a potential client? Unheard of… I’m overjoyed, to say the least. (Instant gratification). They gave me a week but it looks like we both lucked out… And the issue is going on the newsstands in the N-E (Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, Washington, Chicago etc.) + Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and the pay is good. Plus I think I could get more work from them in the future because I pitched a couple of ideas . I’m still in a sort of shock over the time frame, but ready to get to work. This is the second time in a month I have generated a client from this site. Say it with me: I love FWG! Thanks Jodee .

Kendra — I was thinking the same thing today. If I post an ad in one city, it gets flagged and removed. Yet these people seem to have no trouble posting as much as they want. I flagged a similar ad in Chicago today (a scam) and I noticed as I was closing out that it was back up (in about ten minutes.) They must make a good living doing this to have that kind of time on their hands.

The “Writers Needed Immediately” post is something I responded to a few days ago under a different heading. Funny how Craiglist will only allow legit people (like freelancers!) to post ads in one town (even if we are “virtual”) but scam artists seem to have unlimited usage of the site.

Steve, You are probably right. He will just ignore my email. It’s irritating but I am not going to dwell on it. Eventually, that particular scam will stop. They will have to come up with another one.

I have tried that with the others and never get a response. I also sent “Mark” an email after I got his reply and haven’t gotten a response. It is probably a waste of your time–unless it makes you feel better.

I got the same response, it is the same affiliate scam as the others. I’m going to email Mark back and let him know writers are on to this scam. I was also thinking about emailing him and asking if I could just go in the website without going through his link and see how he responds to that. Or maybe tell him I’m going to use his email address to register on the sites after all,it should not matter if he is only interested in how well I write a review. Might be funny to see how he responds.

“Word masseuse”?

That might be someone who takes material that was written by another party (usually ranging in quality from the merely awful to near-incomprehensible)and transforms it into a thing of beauty and clarity.

I’ve done plenty of that myself — taking articles that were “written” by engineers in some form of mutant English, and making it publication-ready.

I’ve also had to revamp pieces that were written by people whose first language is not English — sometimes it’s their third or fourth. When I was done, the articles sounded as though they been written by a native speaker, and the “authors” were overjoyed with my work.
