Everyone: I am so excited! I sent a letter to Condo Monde; today I was looking for work, and they had two condominium properties they wanted to cover for this issue in my local area. They e-mailed me back within the hour and assigned me. Work that soon after contacting a potential client? Unheard of... I'm overjoyed, to say the least. (Instant gratification). They gave me a week but it looks like we both lucked out... And the issue is going on the newsstands in the N-E (Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, Washington, Chicago etc.) + Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and the pay is good. Plus I think I could get more work from them in the future because I pitched a couple of ideas :-). I'm still in a sort of shock over the time frame, but ready to get to work. This is the second time in a month I have generated a client from this site. Say it with me: I love FWG! Thanks Jodee :-).

Kendra -- I was thinking the same thing today. If I post an ad in one city, it gets flagged and removed. Yet these people seem to have no trouble posting as much as they want. I flagged a similar ad in Chicago today (a scam) and I noticed as I was closing out that it was back up (in about ten minutes.) They must make a good living doing this to have that kind of time on their hands.

The "Writers Needed Immediately" post is something I responded to a few days ago under a different heading. Funny how Craiglist will only allow legit people (like freelancers!) to post ads in one town (even if we are "virtual") but scam artists seem to have unlimited usage of the site.

Steve, You are probably right. He will just ignore my email. It's irritating but I am not going to dwell on it. Eventually, that particular scam will stop. They will have to come up with another one.

Christine:
I have tried that with the others and never get a response. I also sent "Mark" an email after I got his reply and haven't gotten a response. It is probably a waste of your time--unless it makes you feel better.

I got the same response, it is the same affiliate scam as the others. I'm going to email Mark back and let him know writers are on to this scam. I was also thinking about emailing him and asking if I could just go in the website without going through his link and see how he responds to that. Or maybe tell him I'm going to use his email address to register on the sites after all,it should not matter if he is only interested in how well I write a review. Might be funny to see how he responds.

"Word masseuse"?

That might be someone who takes material that was written by another party (usually ranging in quality from the merely awful to near-incomprehensible)and transforms it into a thing of beauty and clarity.

I've done plenty of that myself -- taking articles that were "written" by engineers in some form of mutant English, and making it publication-ready.

I've also had to revamp pieces that were written by people whose first language is not English -- sometimes it's their third or fourth. When I was done, the articles sounded as though they been written by a native speaker, and the "authors" were overjoyed with my work.

Tiresome! People that place these ads are losers. I should join an affiliate network and place an ad looking for "people who want to hire writers". I'll tell them, "Oh, just sign up, and you'll be taken right away to a nice screen where you can place your ad..." Yeah, see how they like it then!

Same here on the "Writer's Desperately Needed." I got the reply wanting me to review websites. This is really getting old. I suppose all we can do is flag the ads and pass along the word.

This is what I got back from "Writers Wanted Immediately"
What do you think?
Hey there -

Thanks for your interest in the writing job we posted at Craigslist. We're a new gig looking for some creative writers!

THE JOB:

The job you are inquiring about is an opening for several unique positions in online blogging, internet sites, and other content sites (including writing internationally for a new service we have connections with). You would be writing several times a day (anywhere from 3 jobs in a business day to 10). The hours are flexible and if you cannot complete the jobs for the day, your pay for that day will only be deducted for the amount you had not worked. We are looking for creative writers who display professionality and originality. Please excuse us for having to have this small hurdle (application process) but it allows us to review each writers work before we select our writers. Compensation is going to be $25 per article if within 500-600 word range and $10 if written within the 200-250 word range. Payments will be payable via Paypal (we are located in NYC, NY) or via cheque. More information to follow as well as a phone call introducing you to our network (if selected).

THE APPLICATION:

For the first step of the application process, please submit for us 2 reviews of advertisers we work with. You should signup (and login where available) to these sites and review them thoroughly within 50-100 words each review.

Each of these advertisers have flashy new looks to attract customer attention. Try to evaluate this when reviewing each of the sites. Be creative too! (in other words: you can throw in a joke or two, a pun, something witty, or your own personal twist into each of the reviews). Your applications and consideration will be based on your reviews.

It is important to enter correct information and submit the forms accordingly.

THESE ARE THE 2 REVIEWS:

=============================================

PurePlay - an online poker website
http://www.freshcount4.com/pureplay.php

Ringtones - a ringtones review website
http://www.freshcount4.com/ringtones.php

=============================================

WHEN REVIEWS ARE COMPLETED:
When all of your reviews are successfully completed, please submit them to our applications email @ reviews2@freshcount4.com. Include the following:

- Your name
- Telephone number (and best time to reach you)
- E-mail address to be reached at

I am eagerly waiting your reviews.

Thank you

Mark Hann

writers needed job sounds like the other one that was posted awhile ago asking for reviews of sites of "their sponsors or advertisers" I just received a response back that said basically the same thing a job said awhile ago. Apparently it looks like to me this is a repeat under a different job listing. Another way for them to add more subscribers to their sites.

^ ^ Kind of a double-edged sword there. I'm kinda glad when they DON'T ask for a resume and I later find out it's a scam. At least that way, some con artist doesn't have my resume and phone contact info. The only thing that makes me think it's NOT a scam is the low pay rate. A scammer would "offer" more (oh that's so sad).

The Writers Wanted Immediately ad says Do not send resume and do not send work samples. Sounds like another scam to get e-mails and/or ad clicks. What employer wants responses that tell him/her NOTHING about the prospective employee?

I'm hoping that the "Writers Needed Immediately" isn't another list-building, affiliate marketing jerk. :P Otherwise, it sounds cool, because I'm looking for more content building sites to write for.

I'm betting that they're using the word "skilled" when they actually mean to say highly experienced vs. just getting started.

I feel the same way about the wording. It is like I am going to look at a post and think - wait they want a skilled and talented writer, better skip that one. Not sure I qualify. Ha, ha!
