Demand Studios is a great writing gig, but don’t expect the gig to last because I was writing for them just under a month and got an email telling me they didnt have anymore work for me to do.

Dani — I got a digital camera that also takes movies up to ten minutes long. It is a cheap camera, but it works! It is called HP Photosmart E327. You can buy it on Amazon, or at least that is how I got mine.

I saw a really great digital the other day at Best Buy–about 200 bucks for 10 mega pixel — they have 12 megapixel camera’s, but the things are ridiculously expensive…

Isn’t it interesting how writing has changed? I remember in school writers and photographers were two different creatures – lol. Now I am seeing more and more ads seeking writers who also can submit/take high quality photos and/or create high quality videos.

I have been picking up a few pointers here and there, and I hope when I get a decent digital camera I will be able to expand my horizons.

Dani–yep, that’s what I found too, which is why I stopped writing for them. It took more time finding relevant pics than it did to write, but it felt incomplete to em if I didn’t add pictures–sheesh!

I did hunt down a few free pic sites, but they hardly have what you are looking for, so I gave up…

Besides, whycome the editors can’t hunt down pics themselves. One company I wrote for had accounts with a few photo sites and you could comb through them, obatin the URL fro the pics and they downloaded the pics themselves–

Easy peasy…

Jeff — You are welcome. I write poetry myself and have a few stories published in literary magazines. I mostly do it for fun, but it’s always nice to find the places that pay for them. Many don’t pay a whole lot, but something is better than nothing. So many literary magazines don’t pay, because they’re privately run and budget funded.

Deb — Thanks for letting my links through. I felt a little silly because I realized after I posted the links that Jeff left his email address, so I could have sent them to him directly. (Doh!) Speed reading never pays off! Hope maybe others can get something out of them anyhow.

As far as I know they are not, but I know they prefer it – and may ‘rate’ you better if you always submit them.

I have not submitted any that I can recall. Recently, I created some but they didn’t display properly on the article so I included that in a note to the editor asking for an alternative method to submit them if they wanted the pics – I left it up to them to decide. They published my piece without the pics.

I think its better to add pics, but I have written about such weird things and have such a cruddy digital camera that I figure I am better off not submitting. If I had a better digital cam, or picked/suggested titles that were more photo-friendly I would submit pics.

Also, I don’t want to spend a ton of time trying to find and submit pics, either – then it starts making the pay rate not worth it and taking me more time to mess with pics than to write the article.

Lisa–I usually do about 500 words or so separate form the intro…

Dani–wondering–are pics mandatory? I just always assumed they were, so I included them…

Hi Amy – Thanks for those links. I’m sure many of the regulars appreciate them too.

For the record, we do allow links as long as they’re not all “hey come visit my blog at ….” types of links. These are fine and anyone wishing to share helpful links are welcome to do so. (Hmm….I think I have an idea for a post).

Oh – and if you do share links there’s a good chance you’ll end of up in moderation or the spam filter so it may be a while before your comment is posted.

Sorry I should have maybe given myself some credibility… I am a poet at heart, and I have found some companies how actually paid for my work. however, they couldn’t budget my work anymore, so I had to find other writing gigs… and it’s been about 3 months since I’ve last seen a “poet/creative writing” gig. I have created my own side business putting my art on anything that people ask for Typically inspirational/ homey poems… but I would love to take on any work again.

I don’t post on here at all… but I write for demand studios. It is pretty legit, and I have made about $120 so far (8 articles @ 15.00) Only downside to DS is that they have mostly ‘how to’ articles to write for. Maybe there is the rating thing that will give you access to the other formats, but for now I’m a how-to guy …overall DS seems like a great part-time job for myself during these coming semesters at college

Another concern is how many articles can the have in their database? …I’m sure it will never run out, but just is always is in the back of my mind.

BTW, I know this is kind of a random note, but does anyone know of any ‘creative writing’ like poetry, or more artistic possibilities? I have been having a really hard time finding any lately. I’ll try and check here, but if you could email me jmb5861@gmail.com

Amy, they are indeed getting smarter.

I used to not answer certain blogging ads that were worded a certain way, because they were usually for those stupid “review” jobs. They got hip to that and started posting ads for “freelance writers” that looked very legit.

I once received three responses from the same company all with different Craigslist headers…

Dani–yeah, Demand is kewl, I did actually move up to being able to submit more articles and everything, I just can’t take format grids–I am a free flow writer–I did try doing the word doc copy/paste thing–but for some reason it slowed me down–what’s up with that, yo’?

Okay, putting the crack pipe down…

Question–is submitting pics optional–if so, I may write for them more often…
