Thanks, Sheri. I’ve posted previously published samples online (and provide a link to prospective employers). It’s starting to seem that any Craiglist post with a gmail address is a scam.

Also, FYI to everyone else, the Mountain Recreation Publication has been flagged for removal.

I applied for the “Internet Savvy Article Writers/Bloggers Wanted” that was originally posted on Craigslist. It’s a total scam and they are asking writers to submit three orignal articles even though I have three years of experience and sent them published samples on topics they wanted! Warning — never send uncopywrited work for samples! This is the fourth company/person that has tried to steal my work!

@ Mary, Fiona, and Dawn: Thanks. I put in up because I thought it was a great quote and I wanted to share it. I think it can be applied to many different situations, not just freelance writing.

I loved the quote, too. Whatever is important enough to someone, whether it’s surviving cancer or becoming a successful freelance writer, is worth having that philosophy.

Besides… um… for perspective… plenty of freelancers overcome great personal challenges, including serious illness and poverty, to write for a living. Lance Armstrong is riding a bicycle for a living. Which one, in the grand scheme of things, is more important? I really can’t say; neither careers save lives. (Other than our own.) But both have the ability to touch, influence and inspire countless people. So.. yeah. I think it applies.

Jodee – that’s a great quote and one that can be applied to so many things in life. I’m a big collector of quotes.

By the way, my book is being published on October 6 and I got a call this week inviting me on to a local news program on October 21. I’m going to be on television!

I loved the quote, and realize it wasn’t a literal “Apples to Apples” comparison.

Instead, it speaks of the importance of determination, perseverance and resiliency (traits needed to succeed in any endeavor), as well as the permanency of giving up on one’s dreams and passions.

Lisa: if you highlight the text in Word and select word count, it’ll tell you how many characters the text is. It’s roughly 2-3 lines.

C David – I’ve seen much worse on blogs penned by professional writers.

Think the Lance Armstrong quote is a little over the top on a blog for writers seeking freelancing work. As a freelancer I know it is difficult to face rejection and sometimes days on the computer can be frustrating and depressing. Still, these disappointments and difficulties hardly compare to the hardships which Mr. Armstrong overcame personally and in pursuit of his sport’s highest honors.

I love the ad that says “must be detailed oriented and speak good english”, and then uses words like ‘blogg’ and :
‘We are a great company to work for and have consistant work.
If you are interested in becoming apart of our team.’
