I am not surprised to see the test prep company is still looking for help. The pay is extraordinarily low for that type of work.

It is a pain Carol. What I do for blind ads like that is send in 3 published clips on different subjects. This way if they are legit, they will respond with details. If I do not hear from them, either they were scammers or I was not what they were looking for.

If I get someone who is requesting a test sample; I send it in an email to them with a bcc back to me. This way I have some sort of proof of the submission in case it is used.

@ Carol, I was thinking the same thing. How vague can you possibly be? Perhaps you’re right about a scam, because wouldn’t you want to give at least a little about subject matter to encourage writers with experience in that area? Not a big fan of shot-in-the-dark ads like this.

I’m so annoyed by ads like the “Creative Writers for New Web Site” ad above. These ads all follow a pattern — they tell you almost nothing about what they will pay or what the subject matter will be. But please! Submit writing samples! And be ready to write for us around the clock.

How do they expect people to know what sort of samples to submit? I just think these are scammy ads where companies just want to vacuum up some copy and resell it to someone. I hope people are not sending in free samples to folks like these…

Hi,

Great list. Any one check out the 1st job on the listfor long term writer/blogger. The link takes you to a project site and requests you to sign up to view the details free. I signed up but in order to apply or bid, they will not disclose the details unless I cough up $99.

Too bad since I am looking for long term. Maybe next time.

I don’t know that it’s a math error – seems more like a typo – unless they meant 1/4, 1/2, 1/4, but I would assume it’s 1/3, 1/3, 1/3.

I got a great laugh from the editor/proofreader ad… it’s for working on an economics research paper, and the very simple math about payment is wrong!
