Jodee-thanks so much for the leads, Thanks to everyone for their ongoing comments. I'm new to this site. I just made my first paycheck as a freelancer for writing continuing education modules. I decided to try to freelance for articles. I've applied to Demand Studios and Textbroker. Has anyone ever tried Suite 101? How much did you make, and was it worth it? Thanks!

Veronica - I found the same thing.
I also got a letter today that one of the websites I wrote for is closing. This is the second time I've had this situation in a couple of months. The site's launch much later than expected, then they start quibbling about pay and then after just a month of being live they close because they aren't getting the traffic and can't pay their writers. What's worse is that this site sent a letter to their writers basically saying we were at fault for not publicizing the site more! They did no publicity and expected a website to making them a fortune after 1 month!

Re: Article Writers Wanted - Telecommute

This craigslist email address is invalid. A quick search on the catche of MGR Communications on a browser shows a blank screen.

@ Kathy and everyone else who does SEO articles,

Most of you probably know this exists, but http://www.live-keyword-analysis.com/ is a great way to calculate the densities of keywords in articles. You can also adjust the text if you have too many or not enough occurrences of your keywords and it will keep updating the densities instantly.

Re: Parenting Writer Ad - It does lead to an EHarmony listing. I applied for another of theirs months ago and was told my ideas were not Christian enough for them, so I won't bother with this one.

I did hear back from an ad posted in here a month or so ago looking for people to summarize business books. I'm still not 100% because the $200 pay is really $50 unless they opt to publish your summary and then it is the $50 plus a $200 publishing fee. I'm going to try one out and then see what I think. It struck me as really odd because it says they don't want you to really summarize the book as much as they want you to copy and paste the pertinent details of the book into their template so that people can get a glimpse of the book without having to read it all.

Kathy,
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. These are articles that are rich with keywords or keyword phrases strategically chosen by the client.
Most clients request a 2-3% keyword density per 100 words.
Here's a link you can take a look at that explains it I think:

@Kathy - One of my current employers put it this way. He prefers a 3% density which means for every 100 words I type, the keyword or phrase must appear 3 times. I'm not fond of it. I'm doing articles that are 300 words long and he wants paragraphs of 100 words and then the keyword or phrase appears 3 times per paragraph. To me it sounds forced. SEO rich follows the same idea - you're filling the article with keyword or phrase content so that search engines hit on those words when people are looking for a specific topic.

This has often led to lousy keywords in past jobs:

penile prostate problems (one of the worst I've had)

oxycolon for your bowels

bowel irrigation

Now I stick to easier phrases, right now most of the articles I do uses:

high quality business cards

affordable business cards

online business cards

Great list today, Jodee. I'm an old goat. Many years as a writer of fiction, but I have to admit some of the descriptions for jobs have stumped me. "3-5% word density"? "SEO rich"? Is there a source any of you can recommend that reeducates those of us who, apparently, have been writing in the closet all these years??

Thanks for the great list!

When I checked out the application link for the freelance writers for the parenting site, I was taken to an eharmony portal.

There was no other contact info on the listing. Just wanted to let others know.
