@ Bobbi: How is that Love to Know job panning out? I am about to apply there, but I am getting a sort of creepy vibe from the place. I'd love to know what your impressions are.

@ Bobbi C: Good luck with your interview. Please let us know how it went!

@ Rebecca: You can start a blog by signing up at wordpress.com or blogger.com. They are very user friendly.

@ Misti and Michelle: I visit several sites every day, including CL, to look for leads. I want to give you guys some variety in the types leads that get posted.

I wanted to thank you for including leads from a few other sources besides Craigslist. I do apply to some jobs that come from Craigslist if they sound and look legit, but it's always nice to have writing job leads from various other sources as well. So again, thanks!

Either get an internship, which will get you some clips and experience, or volunteer to do a press release or other writing for someone free, maybe a non-profit -

Please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong spot as I'm a bit new to forums. I am a starting freelance writer who'se been working since April. In that time I've been relatively successfull, finding enough work to pay the bills. That's partly due to the tips this website provided on how to get my name out there. I want to thank everyone who contributed for that. I am facing some severe limitations due to crippling physical illness which, though not life threatening, prevents me from leaving the house most days of the week. It also means that most any job requiring me to be on site is out of the question, severely limiting my employment options.

As writing was not my first job choice, though I've always been a good writer for my own enjoyment, my degrees are in English Lit and Psychology, I have little in the way of specific marketable skills. As such the only jobs I can apply for are the bottom tier content writing positions that thousands of others apply for on a daily basis. I apply to upwards of 30 jobs a week and have had no responses in the last three months. I would've been homeless by now if DemandMedia hadn't hired me to write how-to and informative articles.

I will explain the problem in hopes that someone will have a solution to suggest. Demandmedia limits the number of articles they will publish each week, slashing my income to the bone and then some. Though I'm staying afloat it's tentative at best. The only solution I can think of is to specialize in certain types of writing in order to cut down on the competition. My question is this; how can a writer like me get my foot in the door to writing more specific peices such as press releases, manuals, reviews, etc? They all want someone more experienced, but I can't get experience in this sort of thing unless someone will take the chance and hire me. Any thoughts on the matter or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Everyone,

I just found this website and I love it. Thank you all for such helpful information and especially to Jodee for all her hard work. Hats off to you all.

I would like to start writing my own blog and I was wondering where you think the best places are to post a blog. I’m new to this and would love a little guidance. Thanks so much, Rebecca

Oh also, the crafting channel.. You have to join the website and then also join a contest for Crafting Tutorials. I don't think you have to win to earn the feature author position, but I do know you have to join the contest.

Yay! Thanks so much for these job postings. :) I love when I see Gaming writing gigs, as it is probably the one subject I know too much about. Yes.. sad, but nice when it comes to jobs like these.
Thankyou again!

Hi Jodee,
Just to say, thanks for the job postings. I now have a phone interview with "lovetoknow.com" and have been offered a writing gig with Bright Hub!

Thanks again--

Jodee, thanks for the list. Great to see Canadian jobs posted too i.e. HRDC job bank which is where I sometimes look for jobs other than writing. There is lots of variety in where the jobs are coming from other than CL. Thanks for the effort. Have an awesome day and Happy Autumn!
