A Little Early Autumn Weekend Link Love

When you’re looking for links or posts to share, what catches your eye? For me it’s something benefitting my community. Stuff you can look at and say, “Wow. That’s great advice” or “I never thought of it that way.” I also like to look for new bloggers or those that may not be so popular. When I first began blogging there were many bigger named bloggers who gave me a helping hand my posting links to my blog. I think the reason I do this weekend link love thing is to pay homage to the people who helped me to get where I am today. I’ll never forget it.
Here’s what I’m reading this weekend:
- I had the pleasure of finally meeting Lorelle VanFossen at BlogWorld Expo. I’ve been a fan of her writing for some time now. She’s writing an intriguing series at the Blog Herald regarding Blogging Scams. Check out Blog Scams: Get Rich Quick and Work at Home Scams.
- There’s a poll up at Network Blogging Tips. I hope you’ll stop by and share. We’re wondering how much you earn blogging for someone else.
- I’m always preaching to folks to accept the jobs they like best, but be sure the ends justify the means. David Peralty’s thoughtful post at XFep discussing the recent b5Media pay cut and how much work you’ll have to do to earn a full time living blogging for this network.
- My friend Ahmed Bilal at Soccer Lens is hosting his second annual writing contest.
This week on FWJ Radio we’re discussing which is beneficial – blogging for yourself or blogging for someone else? David Peralty is scheduled to call in and we may have another caller as well.
Also, October 15th is Blog Action Day. Do visit the B.A.D website to see what it’s all about and sign up. BlogTalkRadio will host a 12 hour talkathon for B.A.D with many interesting or notable guests.
Have a great weekend!

Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems like David is surprised to not be able to make a “full-time” income working one-quarter to one-half time. Even if you put 40 hours a week into a blog, I’m not sure you should expect $2,000 a month. There are so many people out there telling others that blogging can be a full-time “business,” but that’s the exception rather than the rule.
It’s possible to make a full time income writing online. I’m sure that with the right gigs it’s possible that all of that writing could be in blogging. I have found some sites that actually pay a reasonable amount for blog posts – although most of them pay around $6 to $10 for a 250 words post.
Still – if I write 8 articles in one hour, it’s possible for me to make a full-time income working part time.
BTW, Deb- thanks for the post. I took some time to visit some of the other sites and enjoyed the break from my normal routine.
Eight articles an hour?!? You guys are machines
