There’s a chilly rain rocking the outdoors and as I sit here in my flannel robe drinking coffee and dreading all the work stuff I have to do online and at home, I’m also feeling that cozy warm and fuzz thing that happens when the leaves begin to change colors. It’s all good.
As you are probably well aware, there’s some major happenings in the blogosphere as well, the top (and probably most prestigious) name in the network blogging world has revamped it’s pay structure which means many bloggers will be paid less. Since this affects much of the FWJ community, I’m interested in your thoughts.
Here’s What I’m Reading this Weekend:
- With all the news this week regarding the b5Media thing, I’ve been reading some very mean spirited posts. Angela Booth wrote what I felt was the most informative post on this topic – Treating your Writing Like a Business. Angela tells us to “run a writing business. Don’t get a writing job.” Rock on, Angela. Look at your writing from the business end instead of from the employee end. After all, we’re really the ones in charge.
- Do you have Blogger’s Back? You know what I’m talking about – it’s that strain in your shoulders and lower back from sitting hunched over your desk for most of the day. If so, you won’t want to miss Andrew’s Blogger’s First Aid Kit post at the Blog Herald.
- As the wife of an accountant, I so approve. Check out 101 Resources for Managing Your Money Online at Blogtrepreneur.
- Jennifer at Catalyst Blogger talks about something we’ve been talking about here for years – that you don’t have to start out low when you’re just beginning. Read My Message to $5 Article Writers at Catalyst Blogger.
- I often suggest we treat web property as if it’s real estate. Choose a brandable name not only by how well it suits you but by how well it might sell in the future. There’s a reason I didn’t buy DeborahNg.com. First of all, I’m not a big fan of vanity sites but the main reason is because no one, except maybe another Deborah Ng, would want to buy my blog. Check out this brief post at JohnChow.com (speaking of vanity sites) about a man who sold his blog for $15 million.
- Dustin at the Writers Technology Companion has a rocking list of 10 Podcasts for Writers. It’s definitely worth a mention, but Dustin…what about FWJ Radio? I guess we’re still kind of new.

Thanks for the mention. I didn’t know you had a podcast; I’ll definitely check it out!
Thank you, Dustin. And welcome to FWJ. The podcast is fairly new – we’re only up to our fourth episode. We’re still learning the ropes but I hope we’re offering up good information.
Thanks for the link love, Deb!!! Very honored to appear on the list with all of these real writers.
PoeWar, not PowWar, but thanks!
Sorry John. Typing without my glasses again!
Thanks for the link love again Deb! I love this time of year too – even though it signals the start of winter, I still find the turning of the leaves and the chilling of the air a time of enchantment.
Great links! Now I just need to find time to read all of them (grin). Because, the five I’ve read so far were all well worth the time, so I’m guessing the others will be, too!
Really great links, Deb! I looked through most of these, and I learned a lot. thanks!
