Maybe it's because we all keep mental files. New experiences simply are a springboard for storage of new impressions and ideas that eventually dance through our fingers and onto the keyboard.

I tend to get my ideas when I am driving in my car. Like Anali I have to try and remember everything until I get home or to my destination. I also get inspired when I read a book.

I totally agree that it's easiest to come up with ideas when you get away from writing. For some strange reason, I tend to get inspired when I'm in the shower. Then I have to remember everything until I can get to pen and paper! : )

Yes, when the body is in motion doing utilitarian activities then the mind is free; kind of sort of. LOL Weird. I get some of my ideas while cleaning the house, but I hate cleaning the house! Also, doing new things opens me up, talk about "thinking outside of the box!"

Hi Deb,

Usually, I have no problem coming up with topics to write about; however, when those dry times hit, getting outside and walking along the beach or going somewhere always sparks increased productivity.

Writers need to recharge their batteries and I find that often, I produce more after taking a much-needed rest.

It can be hard taking that time because you may find yourself thinking about the lost hours of work but usually the rest results in more output.

So true!

Today I got outside and raked leaves the old fashioned way...one rake-sweep at a time. It was wonderful to just be outside on a beautiful fall day, move around, accomplish something, and process some writing ideas that have been percolating over the last few days. Plus, I saw some birds in my yard that I've never noticed before!

My neighbors laughed at me. Just get one of those leaf blowers, they said, it'll cut the work in half!

Nope. I'm happy with my rake.
