Thanks for the leads. For any copywriters in the Kentucky area, I saw an ad yesterday which I’m happy to forward to anyone who’s interested.

Thanks Jodee! Found one I’m applying for this morning.

Thanks so much for this batch, found three that I’m applying for in hopes of picking up one more new client at least;)

Thanks, Jodee! Just wanted to let you know that I got two jobs off last week`s leads, one is writing a sample set of 10 articles with the possibility of that going up to 50+ a month and the other was for Bright Hub. Both look to be excellent ways to fill in the gaps that my regular work leaves! :)

    Hi Jodee
I really appreciate your site–and have found many good leads here.
But as a fairly new freelancer (mainly a journalist) I am finding the business
plan writing market dismal. I am a consultant as well who has helped people write
business plans for ten years. I just moved and am attempting to pick up some freelance while working on a client base.
One lead I found through ads was contract planning work through a company who finds the clients. The pay was absurd – $200 – $1000 for 15 pages plus, including financials. This work takes skill. You have to understand key business and financing issues. I have an MBA. He said that the market is doing this, prices keep going down because of competition.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

@ Genesis: That is great news! :)

@ Liz: I do have some thoughts about biz plans. The argument that the economy is in the toilet, so clients are dropping their pay rates is one that I have seen a lot lately. I still think there are good opportunities out there – you might need to be a bit more creative to find them, that’s all.

Here’s what I would suggest: get a clear idea of who your potential customers are and figure out how to contact them. Is there an organization or group that caters to business owners or startups (who would need a business plan)? Visit discussion forums where they hang out and post comments (with a link back to your web site). Ask your former clients for referrals. I hope that helps.

  8. Liz says:

Thanks, Jodee. I’m also doing personal networking where I live-banks, etc.
I did further research and according to a credible consulting firm, many low-price plans are put together with software–not the value added I bring, i.e. business management, market research and financial management experience.
So while I think I may find an occasional gig through on-line, it doesn’t replace in-person networking. I do have a magazine assignment that looks to be ongoing that I found months ago from Craig’s List. (I hadn’t moved yet and this is a regional publication here)
Thanks again for putting together a great site for freelancers.
