		<description>I&#039;m lucky that I have clients I know offline. Agencies are better at paying for gigs. Craigslist can be iffy. I agree with James. Email is king.</description>

		<description>In three years, I&#039;ve had three formal contracts - all at the client&#039;s request. I&#039;ve lost money exactly twice - $60 and $125 - when I didn&#039;t have a formal contract.

And, like it or not, even if I did have a formal contract, I wouldn&#039;t have the money to pursue legally over international waters.

Lastly, a paper trail is your friend - so yes, email&#039;s as good as gold.</description>

		<description>I think it depends on the amount of money involved. For bigger assignments (either longer-term or a lot of cash involved) I&#039;d want a contract.  Smaller or one-offs, not so much a big deal.</description>
