Thanks Jodee. I found a few potentials today and a potential lead for a friend with About.com.
Hey
Also found a great lead on here today. Thanks so much for all your trawling!!!
Lucy
Thanks Jodee.
Jodee: If you check the Vagabondish website, they do not pay contributors for travel articles.
Thanks for the leads
Have a great weekend!
Just a heads up, the ‘service writer’ gig bounced back.
I was wondering if I could get some advice from someone who has been in this position before. I am bidding on a project to write the web content for a convention and visitors center for a town and was wondering what to charge per word or even per page. I am the only person they have talked to so far for this job because one of my close friends works for the company that will be building the website. I have never written this sort of content, which includes attractions, lodging, history, places to eat, etc. Any recommendations on what to charge per word or page.
Steve M – I think there are a few really good articles on one of the other FWJ blogs here about rates. Not exact numbers of what to charge, but how to figure your time, what your income needs are per hour, plus taxes and any expenses, whether it seems like a lot of research to go into it or not so much, etc.
Good stuff like that – might be the writing tips or business tips one. Probably better than trying to pull a number out of the air or making a direct suggestion.
A few weeks ago there was a post for Parenting writers from a company called Root & Sprout, LLC. They’ve filled the positions. They will keep your name on file, but only hire you if you pay their membership fee. They state that they gave top consideration to those who paid the membership fee when they applied and then say that if I pay the membership fee, I have the potential to earn $120+ a year by having special access to their list of articles they need for their site.
So I guess you don’t qualify for any of their positions unless you cough up the membership fee. So basically a bait and switch.
